setValue getValue checkboxes

I'm having trouble in formsapi getting my funtions to work correctly. Here' s what I want to do. I have a group of checkboxes:

[ ] all [ ] city [ ] state [ ] county [ ] country

I want either
1. All to be check and none of the other boxes
or
2. Any of the other boxes check and no All

I've start having a counter and going to select and unselect All bases on if my counter is odd or even. However I can't get my setValue to work for me.

Array[0, 1] should become Array[1, null]

any suggestions of how my functions should be set up?

What version of TS are you using? Also, attaching the code in question that the setValue is not working in would also help.

I've tried several different things:

var n = 0;
for(i=1; i<item.getValue().length; i++){
item.setValue() = item.getValue();
n++;
}

var n = 0;
for(i=1; i<item.getValue().length; i++){
IWDatacapture.getItem(item).setValue() = item.getValue( [ i ] );
n++;
}

I believe that something like this is what you're after: (this is all untested, and based on the documentation, not on "live" code)

selectAll() should leave just the first (All) checkbox selected. selectAllExceptFirst() snould check everything except the first checkbox (all). Of course, I doubt that you'd want to do exactly that, but this should get you started, I would think

I was thinking way too hard. I was trying to do everything in one function and it would make a lot more sense to call two different functions. i'll let you know what happens. thanks

Btw, I think you have a chicken/egg type situation. From what I gather, if the user clicks on All, you want it to unselect all other options. But at the same time, if a user has All selected and you select any other option, you want it to unselect All. Is that correct?

You can't simply do a getValue and determine this though. Lets say the user has All selected and then selects Country, getValue will return 0,4. Now if the user has Country selected and the user selects All, getValue will also return 0,4. So what would your function do when getValue has 0,4? Would it uncheck All, or would it uncheck everything but all?

So you're going to need to store the current state of the checkbox somewhere in order to know what the user just selected. For example:

You have this checkbox item:

You will need to declare some global variable:

var allSelected = false;

And then your validateCheckbox function would look something like this:
