Browser Required Validation Display Error

I have a required item of type browser in my datacapture form. If I submit the form blank, it highlights the item in red. When I click the browse button and select a file, it fills in the text box but when I go to the next item (say a textarea) the browser item still remains red even though there is information in it. (note: the red will disappear if I click inside the textbox for the browser item).

Ok, well, let's try a different approach. Is this a known issue or can anyone think of a workaround for the above error?
