Odd DCR error

javac

I have retouched all of them in an attempt to get them through, but I don't understand the error message and don't see anything wrong with them. Most are pretty simple objects. Can anyone offer some insight on what to check or what the problem might be?

.. not a TeamSite Templating data record ..

For the DCRs/files you are getting errors, do you have the TST extended attributes set ?

I really dont understand under what scenario you got this error.

Are you getting this error when you try to edit a DCR using the "Edit" button of teamsite GUI?

Where did you find the error messages that you have listed here?

i think i might be able to answer you if i better understand your problem.

javac

"For the DCRs/files you are getting errors, do you have the TST extended attributes set ? "

Not sure about that one, I'm not in control of the content generation. Is there an easy way to check? The client says they've changed nothing on thier end, but the number of files that are generating this error is growing.

lhdavis

Just view the properties on the file (through the TeamSite GUI) and you should see something like this if the TST extended attributes are present:

TeamSite/Templating/Encoding:
TeamSite/Templating/PrimaryDCR: <dcr name>
TeamSite/Templating/PrimaryDocumentType: content/<DCT type>
TeamSite/Templating/PrimaryPT: <PT name>.tpl

in webdesk, use the details item next to the name of the DCR, or FIle Properties in Web Desk Pro (TS 55X)

Should see something like:

TeamSite Extended Attributes:
Attribute Value
TeamSite/Templating/DCR/Type eportal/portal_page

javac

We've got a perl script to do our promotion process. The error is generated when it tries to execute something like this:
c:\iw-home\bin\iwgen -t Y:\path\to\tpl.tpl -r Y:\path\to\dcr.dcr Y:\path\to\xml.xml

Gives:
Y:\path\to\dcr.dcr: not a TeamSite Templating data record

The DCR files are very simple and well-formed, I can post a sample if needed. Previously they've run fine, but have started to generate errors after an edit (through gui only).

Yes, & look for the TS extended attributes.

If you are moving DCRs with a perl script, you can easily lose those.

javac

Thanks, they do appear to be set:

TeamSite Extended Attributes:
Attribute Value
TeamSite/Templating/DCR/Type S1_US/downloadablefile

javac

"If you are moving DCRs with a perl script, you can easily lose those."

We haven't had a problem with this previouslywith the script, any idea what causes this? Some files do get moved and then the generation is run over the course of the script. It's not even all files, just a few out of a few thousand.

iwovGraduate

Which DCR(s) did you check this for ? Did you check it for the DCR(s) that are giving your errors ?

c:\iw-home\bin\iwgen -t Y:\path\to\tpl.tpl -r Y:\path\to\dcr.dcr Y:\path\to\xml.xml

I believe those paths need to be vpaths for iwgen - try this:
c:\iw-home\bin\iwgen -t \path\to\tpl.tpl -r \path\to\dcr.dcr \path\to\xml.xml

There is an assumption here that '\path\to' is something like: "\default\main\...\templatedata\category\data-type\..."

How are you moving them ? cp ? mv ? That will lose the EAs.

nipper

Shamelss plug on one of my tech notes:

Try this script:

http://devnet.interwoven.com/site.fcgi/techlib/52488

It will walk down the templatedata and report any DCRs missing the EAs

From your original post you are getting "not a TeamSite Templating data record" error for the following few files:

Y:\default\main\SalesOne\S1_US\STAGING\templatedata\S1_US\downloadablefile\data\cross_LoB\sales\VeriSign_LunchandLearn061803.dcr
Y:\default\main\SalesOne\S1_US\STAGING\templatedata\S1_US\downloadablefile\data\cross_LoB\sales\VeriSign_TheValueofTrust.dcr
Y:\default\main\SalesOne\S1_US\STAGING\templatedata\S1_US\downloadablefile\data\cross_LoB\sales\VeriSign_AnAllianceGoToMarketStrategy_LunchandLearn072402.dcr
Y:\default\main\SalesOne\S1_US\STAGING\templatedata\S1_US\downloadablefile\data\cross_LoB\sales\India_CustomerBriefingCenter_Video.dcr

What are the extended attributes on these files ?

javac

All the files reported do show EA's and they're all identical. Just like the ones that are working. Smiley Sad

TeamSite Extended Attributes:

TeamSite/Templating/DCR/Type S1_US/downloadablefile

Are you executing your script in the STAGING area or in your workarea? The path in your error message says STAGING but I belive it should be your workarea since STAGING is supposed to be read-only.

iwgen does not write to the DCR, so it should work even if the DCR is in STAGING area, as long as the generated file is in a writable area (workarea).

iwovGraduate

I assume you checked this for the DCRs that were reported in errors. (In the STAGING area).

Few more thigns to try/check:
Are you able to open that DCR from the UI ? (the one in STAGING area - same as reported in errors)
Are you able to preview/generate from the UI ? (again, for the same DCRs in, same PT, etc. in your workarea)
Do you get the same error message if you run iwgen from commandline ? (The exact command is in your logs)

kingfisher

Since the log shows the files giving error are not Teamsite templating records, most of us feel the problem is definitely with the extended attributes.

A difference between a ordinary xml file and a DCR is the extended attribute "TeamSite/Templating/DCR/Type". IF you execute iwextarr command on a ordinary xml file, it would return nothing. whereas a DCR would return something like "S1_US/downloadablefile".

To make sure that the files giving error are DCRs please try the following command.

c:\iw-home\bin\iwextattr -g "TeamSite/Templating/DCR/Type" "Y:\default\main\SalesOne\S1_US\STAGING\templatedata\S1_US\downloadablefile\data\cross_LoB\sales\VeriSign_LunchandLearn061803.dcr"

if it returns some string like "S1_US/downloadablefile" then its valid DCR. else you need to set it up manually.

Frankly i dont see anything other than EA as cause of the issue.

Thanks a ton for all of the thoughts and responses so far! I had some access issues to work out and got a chance to experiment a little more. The files in question do show the EAs for all levels and are viewable. Here's a sample from the command line. I may just try import/export and resetting the EAs at this rate ... off for some coffee!

Please try removing the "Y:" from all the arguments to iwextattr and iwgen -- Y: does not specify a VPATH which is what both those commands are expecting. Some CLTs accept filesystem paths in lieu of vpaths in some circumstances - but that's more an "accidental feature" than a supported protocol.

That file is viewable from the TS UI, and reports having the EA set. We're running 5.5.2, don't remember the SP offhand.

Interesting news about the full path being an 'acciental' feature. The creator of the original script used full paths everywhere. I'll try it with vpath, but I doubt that's the problem since it's working for 99% of the files.

Realized one mistake I was tying to apply the EA to the file on staging ... same result for iwgen though.

Last bit o' wierdness. After renaming the file from the TS UI it updates perfectly fine, change the name back and it fails again!
