Setting VisualFormat to clean on open?

I know I've seen something about this before but for the life of me I can't find where it is. My current problem is that I need to have the VisualFormat editor always clean it's content when it's loaded or saved. The clean needs to be done so it's performed even if the field isn't touched. Can anyone point me in the right direction?
