calling iwupdate in CGI

I wrote a CGI to take vpath as parameter, this CGI is calling iwupdate -w <vpath in staging> <vpath> to updo changes for the specified file.

I am able to invoke an iwupdate command in console to undo changes for the specified file, but calling the same command via CGI it does not seem to work. In the CGI, I invoke iwpudate as following:

my $rc = system("/iw-home/bin/iwupdate -w /default/main/br1/STAGING/test.txt /default/main/br1/WORKAREA/wa1/test.txt");

The value for $rc is 256, and the file did not get updated, after invoking the CGI.

Anyone know if iwupdate cannot be invoked via CGI? Thanks.

Try it with execution backticks instead, and redirect stderr to stdout. You're probably getting some sort of error and not capturing it since system doesn't return the output of the command. e.g.

my $res = `/iw-home/bin/iwupdate -w /default/main/br1/STAGING/test.txt /default/main/br1/WORKAREA/wa1/test.txt 2>&1`;

To answer your actual question, I can't think of anything that would keep iwupdate from executing in a CGI.
