UITK - displaying the Job description

I'm trying to display the Job Description inside of the task list.

I'm confused as to what I'm doing wrong.

This is the entry in ui_custom.xml

  <iwov-insert-before id="description">
   <column id="custom.job.description"
     label="Job Description"
     description="Job Description"

according to the JAVADOCS...

CSTask has getWorkflow
CSWorkflow has getDescription

So I'm lead to believe that workflow.description should work.

But the field is blank.
Am I able to do this?... Am I not able to join methods?

Maybe someone from IWOV could jump in here.
I probably missed it in the documentation, but I haven't found what exactly you can use in the property field.

My initial thoughts were that it will accept any "get" type method?...

anyone?!

I don't think you can use workflow description here to replace the task description. But one thing you can definitely do is to set a task variable in the each of the workflow tasks to reflect the workflow description. You are definitely able to display the task variable here.

Thanks.. that's how I currently do it (I posted a tec article)

But I am trying to get an understanding on how the property field really works.
Whether it represents an Object "get" methods...
EG for a task you are calling a method from the CSTask object
hence description (getDescription) and variable() (getVariable) works.
so I assumed that workflow (getWorkflow) . description (getDescription) would work.
I think that it should be able to do this, I'm just not sure exactly

I guess it would be good to know exactly what you are able to use in these fields

Got it...

Pages 51-53 in the 6.5 UI customization guide explain this properly.

It lists a whole bunch of standard fields. Basically you need to pay attention to the already supplied id's (wfdesc in the job description case).

What threw me was the association of property names to java bean calls.

so the entry would be...

yep, using those specific id's makes it work.

Logically however, I still don't understand why it works that way, but it was in the documentation which is good.

Got confirmation fro IWOV engineer:
The properties follows the CSSDK API methods on get/set values for an object, you can check CSSDK javadoc for the exact values.

Well you should read this thread from the begining then.

(task).(get)workflow.(get)description did not work when I supplied my own custom ID

Well, the answer is only specific to your initial speculation as "Properties may not be relevant if using the correct ID".

Actually, the IDs and Properties in the Task and Job List must have a very specific relationship in order to work correctly.

BTW, I did read the whole story.

But if what you say is correct, then wouldn't the config entry in the first post work?..

property - workflow.description
does not work with a unique custom id

If the property entries expect bean methods from the CSSDK API, then it seems to me it should work.

There must be something that I'm missing in my understand.

No problem, guess I was kind of over reacted myself after a long day.

That's what the engineer who's working on UITK said in our internal email alias. I agree with you that in theory, your first post should work with a custom ID. Hopefully, I can some more clarification from the engineers again to clarify some of the doubt.

It's no biggie as the solution is found in the documentation.

It just took me a while as my "understanding" took me away from what the documentation describes. Actually it seems to describe an exception to the basic rule that applies to everything else (bean calls).

Maybe the documentation could be a little more specific in that sense - it doesn't actually state explicitly the list of properties (or how to derive them - CSSDK API).
Kinda leaves you on a search and rescue mission.

But I've missed stuff in the doco's before.
