scheduling a workflow
NathansDIS
What is the best way to schedule a workflow to run once each month? We would like to automate a workflow that will perform some maintenance tasks in a TeamSite branch. We are currently using TeamSite 6.1 SP1 on Windows 2000. Your experiences, suggestions, best practices, etc are appreciated.

if it's a Solaris platform, a cronjob could do a trick.
I could also think of a 'dummy' deplouyment with DNR, so you could put it in the OD scheduler....

Is this really a workflow? I.e. are there user interaction tasks involved; reviews; etc. ? Or is this a completely automated sequence of "tasks" that you want to have run periodically?
If the latter - consider creating a script to be run through WinAT (or install a Windows version of cron on your system).
If the former - it's probably pretty much the same thing, except the script that you'd run would execute iwwft_compile.ipl on a wft file (or iwjobc -i on a job description file) to instantiate the workflow - but again this would be done through WinAT (or windows version of cron).
Alternatively, you could use the OD Scheduler to kick off a no-op scheduled deployment which runs a DNR script that essentially would do the same thing as cron/WinAT.

You could Schedule a batch script through the Windows 2000 Scheduler. The batch script would invokes the job you need. On the command line, check out the "at" syntax.

Thanks guys-
I'm not sure yet if there will be workflow tasks. We do have daily scripts (non-workflow) that run via W2k scheduler to cut editions in some TeamSite branches prior to the daily deploys. Since we have not had any issues with the scheduler tasks, we will most likely use this instead of OD. Thx again.
