LiveSite?

Does anyone know anything about LiveSite (beyond what's available in this PDF)?

Specifically, I'm trying to understand if this is supposed to work with or in place of (or ?) TeamSite Templating / FormsPublisher?

Or is this intended as a replacement for the DreamWeaver integration for developing DCTs/PTs ?

It sounds like it requires yet-another-server with yet-another-DB and thus seems to be blurring (rather than sharpening) the distinction between IWOV and some of its competitors in terms of being a file-system rather than DB driven CM system, or - alternatively the distinction between IWOV and MS's concept of pushing changes out to a live web site automatically without any kind of review process.

I suppose it's fine to offer such alternatives, but it would be nice to see sort of a side-by-side comparison of the features and functions of LiveSite with all the rest of the existing TeamSite WCM pieces. It looks really neat, but I have to wonder what it doesn't do more than just being thrilled about what it does do.

LiveSite is an incremental improvement upon TS. It is installed on your TS dev server and seamlessly integrates itself into the UI (so no new interfaces), servers, etc. It completely leverages TS Templating/Forms Pub along with all the other TS features (workflow, versioning, etc.). The system leverages existing forms, content records, and metadata, and uses a reusable component based architecture to enable users to easily manage the presentation layer.

In addition to being pre-integrated with your TS repository, components can also be pre-integrated with document management repositories, image repositories and external web-services and can be reused over and over again with significant one-off customizations (made by admins) without having to burden IT every time they want to make a change. Users can easily create new pages, new sites, and can leverage an optional database to deploy dynamic content in the run time should you so choose.

The product leverages workflow so the content only goes live if it's been approved and Open Deploy can be used to manage the transition from development to production.

Aha! Good questions. Excitingly, LiveSite is an extension of TeamSite. Think back to
the original TeamSite Templating. Templating was an app written on top of TeamSite that
wrote XML for preview, staging, workflow, and version control. LiveSite is an app written
atop TeamSite to write out a specific type of XML - page.xml - in a workarea for preview,
staging, workflow, and version control. Page.xml includes references to components and
all the customizations for those components in that specific page instance (referenced base
components are unmodified and shared by multiple pages across multiple sites). Components
source content from DCRs. Think of LiveSite as therefore a componentized assembly environment
for multiple DCRs. When you are in LiveSite, you actually link in existing DCRs, edit existing DCRs, or
create new DCRs on the fly. Your DCTs DO NOT CHANGE. DCTs are for reusable content; LiveSite
templates are for dynamic pages that source in reusable content.

I'm not signed up for the webcast [yet] as I'm never sure if I'm going to be able to see it live - I tend to catch the recordings when I find time.
I am scheduled to be at GearUp - so hopefully I'll get to see it then too.

At this point I guess I'm just having trouble understanding how this all works *without* adding chaos to the WCM process. Hopefully I'll get to see the webcast and be able to understand it better then.

Is webex ever going to work on Macs and/or in a browser other than IE?
I tried using the link on my Mac and I get "The requested URL /interwoven1/onstage/tool/docshow/message.php was not found on this server."
I just tried using it on my PC in Firefox and it just hangs.
I'm now watching it via IE on my PC ...

Some questions I have after watching the webcast that Kevin pointed to:

So you can create a new site and then send the result through a workflow - okay - is there a unique workflow command designation for "new site"?
I.e. - we have new_job, submit, tt_data, assign. Is there now a new_site command directive that allows us to designate specific workflows for site review processes as opposed to standard template review processes, new job processes, etc.?
Is the livesite db intended to work with other application servers (e.g. websphere) or is it intended to replace / be used instead of other application servers?
Is there an authoring assistance tool for developing the Appearance XSL & Appearance XML used by a component?
What kind of OS limitations, if any, are there with respect to the client interface for using LiveSite? (i.e. what flavors of Windows, Solaris, Linux, and MacOS can support the client interface?)
What kind of browser limitations, if any, are there wil respect to the client interface? (i.e. what versions of IE, Netscape, Mozilla, Firefox, Safari, Opera, etc. will support the client interface?)

I'm sure I'll have other questions if/when I get to play with the software myself - but the above questions came to mind while watching the existing webcast. I'm registered for the DevNet webcast and hopefully I'll be able to attend - but it's difficult to get a feel for a piece of software if you can't play with it yourself.

The webcast is not tomorrow -weds the 26th;it's THURSDAY the 27th.

And is is NEW material, more targeted at developers. It includes an architectural overview and a demo.

It will be recorded. DevNet webcast recordings are posted the same calendar day as the event, usually 2-4 hours after the event is complete. Sometimes we run into logistic snags and it takes a little longer.
