editing files with Perl

Hi all,

I want to write a script that will be called from a workflow as an external task. The logic of what I want is this:

1. identify the first file attached to the workflow
2. check its file type and only proceed if it's html or asp
3. open the file
4. substitute matched strings based on a regex
5. close file
6. go to the next file

I already have a script that figures out what the attached files are, each as $file[$i], so steps 1 and 6 above are already in place.

One thing to be aware of if this is Windows: all of the files touched by this process will be owned by SYSTEM, no matter who owns the task. It's a limitation of the NT security model, which doesn't really have a true equivalent of the Unix su functionality.

Seriously, though, I don't typically mind helping out like this once in a while. However, if a member starts to show a pattern of expecting the forums to do their work for them, then I tend to be a lot less responsive.

Oh you silly boy. Telling me not to respond to a post is only going to make me want to respond more. Abusing DevNet? That's hard to do, chief. You are, on the other hand, abusing your employer by taking on a job that you clearly aren't qualified to do. Coming in here and asking for someone to write code for you when you haven't even tried to do it yourself is a waste of everyone's time. You can whine about it all you want, just crack open a book and do your own job. I assume someone is paying you to do something. Earn it.

The problem I have is that he learned nothing from this excercise. Satan SHOULD have tried to write it,
asked for help and/or a critique of code. People would have been happy to do that. I have learned more
from Fish's response to code that I have posted than anywhere else. Yes, you will read the code. That
does zero good. Trying to write it & understanding what it does (and learning from the answers you
receive) will help you much more.
