what is a vpath
System
I always thought a vpath was a device-independant specification for a file in the IFS. I always throught the vpath for something like Y:\default\main\WORKAREA\work\dir\file would be /default/main/WORKAREA/work/dir/file. But when I invoke show_env.cgi it says the vpath is more like \default\main\WORKAREA\work\dir\file. So I am left wondering, what is a vpath? Is it an OS path without the Interwoven virtual device mount, or something else?

A vpath is a virtual path into the IFS - in pre-6.x versions it was defined as either /archive/main/... or //servername/archive/main/... - the latter was hardly every used except symbolically in OpenDeploy as being //IWSERVER/archive/main/...
In 6.x versions the /archive/main/... syntax still works, but CGI's return //servername/archive/main/...
In the case of using '/' vs. '\' as a path separator - that's a case of the library code trying to make everything look correct for the OS - though I'm pretty sure that '/' will work on both OS's whereas '\' will only work on Windows

Vpaths are only used for items within TeamSite('s backing store).
For other items (like perl scripts and configuration files) a directory path is used.
The vpath (on Windows systems) allows both slashes (/ or \), but the directory path uses the slash supported by the OS.
The vpath (version path) can also contain the servername (//IWSERVERNAME/default/...).
For more information, please look at page 15-18 (especially page 18 top) of the TeamSite Command-Line Tools.

As usual, no access to support site/PDFs/manuals. This is my support site, and I have to say it's a much better one.

But Interwoven's support site won an award! And they SPAMed everyone to let us know.
