Setting Container Label Dynamically with FormAPI

Hi,

Our environment is: Teamsite 6.1 SP1 Windows 2003.

We have a navigation menu structure that is built via a Teamsite Template. We use Containers with child Containers for each level.

As the menu is quite large - it contains the entire navigation for a large site, we open the Template Form with all Containers collapsed, by setting the
replicant-render='collapsed' viewoption in templating.cfg.

In order to identify each of the top level Containers to the user when the form is opened for edit, we would like to set the label for each container to be set to the value of one of the its text fields.

Is there a way to access the label for a container at load time to insert the value from the associated Text field?

I don't believe that this is possible with the current FormAPI. It does seem like an interesting and useful Feature Request. Could you please file a FR and attach your customer names to it with a full description of the use-case.

Thanks Chuckles, this works very well. The only thing that this function doesn't do is update the document tree frame. I've tried hacking away at this a bit, using your code as a model, but have not been successful. Here's the sort of thing I'm trying:

top.document.treeFrame.document.getElementById(text_id).innerHTML = newLabel;

Has anyone been successful in altering the DOM for the treeFrame?

I'm using SP2 (6.5) and the label id wouldn't work. I needed to use "title_text_xx" as my identifier. Works great.

Hey,

this gave me inspiration to solve (almost) a problem I was having with replicant titles (a feature added in a later Patch on top of 6.5 SP2, and also in 6.7 supposedly). "Almost" because this conflicts with replicant-render=collapsed (in templating.cfg)

The same logic applies, but the field to fill in is different named: "replicant_instance_title_NN" (NN = item.itemImpl.instanceID)

Details posted in another thread(*) where I was explaining my problem before.

Is this (the post by chuckles) the solution to FR 60377? Given that it looks like a hack, I find that hard to believe.
I noticed that 6.7 formapi mentions also a new method IWItem.setLabel

TS 6.7.x FormAPI provides supported IWItem.setLabel Method. There is no need in this thread's old hack

what kind of a problem are you having with setLabel?

i remember there was bug in it when using it with nested replicants. but it might have been fixed in 6.7.2.

setLabel of this thread is an old hack for the TS 6.5, it just happened to have the same conventional Name
(Complete Signature differs). With the 6.7 it's better to use supported one. Granted, it has issues as well but at least
it's documented and you can open a support case if needed
