Web CMS (TeamSite)
Download of subdirectories
HolgerOstermann
Hello,
is there a way in TeamSite (5.5 on Solaris) to download subdirectories (with their dcrs and subdirectories) or is the only way to write a custom (perl) script to do this?
Thank you,
Holger Ostermann

The Edit-dropdown - Download allows to download selected dcrs from TeamSite to a local drive. However, it does not allow to download subdirectories.

Ah, ok, got it.
No - by design TS does not let you do it

A question on download.
What is the logic behind not letting user to download a directory?
Users can import a directory to teamsite but not download.

you are asking for logic - I can ask the same question. It's not there. A similar issue was with CopyTo ....
(actually, with directory import - the logic is there, but so are the bugs....)

THe way TS was designed is a work-in-place model. IW envisioned a product, similar to ClearCase
in the SCM arena that allowed you to edit in the repositiory and thought most users would do that.
By mounting shares or using Samba, that is not too hard to do.
The downside of downloading a directory is what if you download an area where I have files
locked and am changing ? You think you see too many conflicts now, wait till that happens.
Imagine I download a directory in May. You hack and hack on the files for 3 months. I upload the
directory in August & step on all of your changes. I have seen that happen way too many times
in the Copy-Modify-Upload model of SCM.
Are there some valid reasons to download a directory ? Certainly. Can this get you into
pretty big trouble down the road. Yup.
I do suspect that if you can mount the repository to your local system you can effectly do most, if not
all, what you need to for download.
