iwupdate help

I am trying to update my workarea with an old publish edition. For this
I
am getting the contents of each file attached to my wf into a temporary
workarea and then doing a submit from that temporary workarea.

I am accomplishing these tasks by running:

1. iwupdate CLT using the following code:

2. Then I use the iwsubmit CLT to update my STAGING from the temporary
workarea using:

The problem that I am getting into is that the 1st CLT is not updating
the
temporary workarea from an earlier edition, instead the file's old copy
already present in the temporary workarea is being submitted in Step
2(above) to submit to staging area. Thus I end up with the copy of file
in
the temporary area, while I intend to use the most recent which is in
the
publish area.

Please help on this.
I am using Win2K,TeeamSite 6.x

You need to specify the -x option to your update command.

Actually made it to work.

The problem was:

I was first trying to get the most recent edition using the CLT:

my $iwcmd_edition = TeamSite::Config::iwgethome() . "/bin/iwlasted";

$cmd = "$iwcmd_edition $branch";
$latest_edition = `$cmd 2>&1`;

and this would return the most recent edition.

Then I was trying to build the parameter to pass to the iwupdate like this:

my $rollback_edition=$branch.'/'.'EDITION'.'/'.$latest_edition;

Then I was running the command:
$iwcmd_update -w "$rollback_edition/$file" "$temp_workarea/$file" 2>&1
The -w was OK, but the variable $rollback_edition had a "new line" in it,because the variable $latest_edition was getting a "new line" followed by the recent edition name.

Had to chomp the $latest_edition , i.e:
chomp($latest_edition).

and then construct the variable $rollback_edition.

Glad to hear its working, but I think you may want to add the '-x' to your command, along with the -w flag. -w has to do with what files exist/don't exist in both areas. -x has to do with versioning conflicts. I seem to recall cases where the update didn't complete unless -x was specified. Maybe only if the file is modified in the workarea, but I think it may have something to do with the version in the workarea compared to the most recent version in staging compared to the version you're trying to update. I don't know all the cases, but I have had trouble with iwupdate without the -x switch.

If you really want to create a workarea based on an older edition - the easist way to do that is by ... creating the workarea from scratch:iwmkwa branch_vpath workarea_name "comment" edition_name owner_userid group_userid(group_userid is completely optional)

If you then want to submit those files on top of the current versions in staging:iwsubmit -w workarea_vpath "comment"It's a lot simpler and probably faster than doing it on a file-by-file basis.

If you add the '-r' flag to the iwsubmit command, you'll get output telling you want was submitted.
