Remote Deployment

I am trying to kick-off a remote deployment. From the client server, i am running "iwodcmd -host". I am getting the following error while doing this:

$ iwodcmd -host sun24 start test.xml
Unable to Connect to OpenDeploy daemon
Reason: Failed to create Socket
Reason: sockErr=76, Unknown socket error
Check that the OpenDeploy server on host sun24 is listening on port 3434.

If I run this same command on the base server (single host, but using the -host param), it runs fine. Base server is Solaris 9 and client is AIX.

Any suggestions?

Hmm - I've never used the -host flag -- but a question here is what version of OpenDeploy do you have on your Base Server (Solaris) and what version are the CLTs from that you're running from your AIX server?
Also - is The Base Server configured to be listening on port 3434 ? Is it in fact up and running?

6.0.1.0 on both machines. 3434 is listening on the base server, as I was able to do a single host deployment using the -host option and that specific port number.

The current deployment sequence is from this base server (sun24) to the client (rs7) (which works when requested from sun24 or the admin UI). rs7 is also the client that I'm trying to inititate the deployment from.

Did you configure Deploy.cltProxyAllowedHost in deploy.cfg to allow the initiating host to connect to the Base Server's proxy port?

Your deploy.cfg should contain something like this:

Deploy.cltProxyEnable: y
Deploy.cltProxyPort: 3434
Deploy.cltProxyHost: localhost
Deploy.cltProxyAllowedHost: A, h2.acme.com, 12.34.56.78

Invocation from the remote host should go something like this:

iwodcmd -host B -port 3434 start foo

Yea, that is exactly what I have. Deploy.cfg on base server:

Deploy.cltProxyEnable: y
Deploy.cltProxyPort: 3434
Deploy.cltProxyHost: localhost
Deploy.cltProxyAllowedHost: sun24, rs7, localhost

Does the client / remote server need to have deploy.cfg configured like this as well?

I don't think so.

I'm wondering if you change "Deploy.cltProxyHost: localhost" to have the name or IP of the host where the Base Server is running will help.

Todd - does the Base Server need to be restarted after changing the deploy.cfg file to allow those changes to take effect?
Jika - have you tried restarting the Base Server to see if that fixes the problem?

Also - have you verified that the hostnames you're entering in the list are accepted / expanded correctly via your DNS systems?

I have tried this.

Hmm. You may be on to something here. I can telnet from sun24 to rs7 but not the reverse, probably because rs7 is our production server that is open to the web. I will work with the sys admin and see if we can work something out with this. Will report back my findings.

Well, it looks like I'm not going to get the connectivity from that client machine (rs7) to utilize iwodcmd remotely. I am going to use SOAP instead. Of course, I'm having problems setting that up too. I will start a separate thread for this.
