Clean install vs Upgrade
mmb
Hi
We are planning to upgrade our current TeamSite installation from TS5.5.2 -> TS6.1. As part of this we are also going to migrate to a new hardware platform (staying on Solaris, just bigger & better).
Would you recommend doing a clean install of TS6.1 onto the new hardware and then importing all of our customisations;
or, installing TS5.5.2 onto the new hardware, importing our customisations and then upgrading to TS6.1?
I would prefer the clean install, but I am keen to gauge other opinions on this.
Thanks in advance

Figure you're going to have both servers up and running concurrently for a while - while you test and verify all your customizations and tweak things to make them work, or work better under 6.1.
With that in mind - I'd say start from scratch with a backup copy of your 552 backing store (so there's data there to play with) - and then once you have everything looking good:
1) Make a tar file of all files that live within TeamSite branches that needed to be tweaked (DCTs, PTs, etc.)
2) shut down your 552 server
3) get a good backup done
4) restore the backup to your 61 server
5) run iwfsck -d on the store
6) bring up the 61 server
7) Restore the files you tar'd up before-hand
8) run iwfsshrink (you can do this while the server is up and being used)

We worked with support for weeks and had multiple issues, thankfully they were not operator errors. However, we were unable to do an upgrade. My opinion is if possible depending on your site, do a clean install.
