This regex is close to validating 24 Military time "HHMM"hour time but not all the way there.
/^(([01]?[0-9]|[2][0-3])([0-5][0-9]))?$/
It fails on 230 and 259
Any help please?

Perhaps the problem lies in the "!". Doesn't .test return true when there is a match?

BTW, I think true military time requires the leading "0" for times less than 1000; ex. 0930.

Don't concern yourself with the "!" in the function

The way I have it set up is that IF IT DOES NOT ("!") find a match, alert and return true. So the function name makes sense

Did it "FindIllegalTime" return true = yes

In short Interwovens Tool "the regex validator" validates 230 and 239 using this regex
^(([01]?[0-9]|[2][0-3])([0-5][0-9]))?$

Sorry. I was thrown off by the comment in your code that reads, "Return true if only HHMM 24 hour time." When, I guess you actually want it to do the opposite!

Perhaps the problem is in the precedence of the "|". Try something like this:

^(([01]?[0-9])|(2[0-3]))[0-5][0-9]$ -- I have not tested this Smiley Sad

My point regarding true military time is that 230 and 239 should not be valid. But if you want to be lax in your enforcement, its your code.

FWIW - I threw together a quick HTML page (below) and it seemed to do what you wanted (i.e. accepts 230 and 259 as valid) - are you saying this doesn't work ? In what context (FormAPI in a DCT? or somewhere else?) - Note: I'm assuming that the typo (setFormFeildColor - commented out below) is just a part of your post and not in the actual code - yes?

Im sorry totally my fought for confussing everyone

I need a regex that will take 0000 to 2359 and all numbers in between with a 4 digit format to accept it as being GOOD (i.e. when i got to the regex validator the green light goes on and it says "valid input")

(i.e. accepts 230 and 259 as valid)
I dont want to accept 230 and 259 as valid. It has to be dddd

I thought you said you wanted to be able to accept ddd as well as dddd - if that's what the problem is - simply get rid of the '?' at the beginning - change:

(([01]?[0-9]|[2][0-3])

to:

(([01][0-9]|[2][0-3])
