Via the UI, login as bootstrap admin. Select an OD server. Add an admin or user to the selected OD server. If added a user, then add deployment(s) to the user.

Note that if the CSF access service is running on Windows, you need to specify user IDs as domain\user, even if the OD server is running on a Unix system.

hi,

i have tried the procedure that u had mentioned, but its still giving me the following error :

Failed to authenticate user. Generic failure. vm2d0613\temp

where vm2d0613 is my domain and temp is the user name.

but anyway thanx for the suggestion.

If the user isn't authenticating, it points to a problem with the CSF access service. Perhaps it's not been configured to access your user directory (LDAP, etc.)

If you're running with the default CSF configuration, then everything should work ok. You might want to check that the user you are attempting to authenticate can login to the Windows box you're using. This should prove whether the user can be authenticated at all.

If it still doesn't work, I'd suggest working with Tech Support to help figure out what's wrong.

Logging into the OD 6 UI goes through the following sequence:

+ Authenticate user and password via CSF
+ Check with selected OD server whether the authenticated user exists with the selected role

So check that...
+ CSF is configured to authenticate properly
+ The user that you are logging in as is defined as the bootstrap user on the selected OD base server

If CSF, OD Admin and OD Base Server are all installed on the same host, then the default user (<host_name>\Administrator on Windows or root on Unix) are pre-configured for you.

You don't need to do anything with the passphrase file. The OD Base Server is configured by default not to check it. However, if you explicitly configure the OD Base to use passphrase, then make sure you copy the one generated by the CSF that you're using for authentication.

This may be a simple fix but heres my 2 cents

When adding users to OD via gui are you specifing Domain\Username when adding them?

Thanks in advance!

Hi all,

one additional hint to check, if some users can't log on to OD 6 UI:

There's a Group Policy named "Allow logon locally"
(you can see it in Start menu -> Settings -> Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Local Securiy Policy).

I've noticed the following on my Win2003-OD6.0.2 environment:

Only if user is directly or indirectly (as member of a windows group) administered within this policy, he can log on to OD UI.
Otherwise there's an entry in the SERVERNAME_odadmin_servletd.log:

**ERROR** java.rmi.RemoteException
**Message: Generic failure. mydom\myuser
2005-09-24 11:41:02 - Authentication error: user=myuser; domain=mydom; role=od-user
