Hello,

I am trying to set up my TS Server for datadeployments. Environment: TS5.5.2, Windows2000, Oracle9i
Have an ODBC set up on the TSserver to connect to my oracle server, and the following in database.xml:
<database name="localdb"
db="localhost:1521 Smiley Surprised

DBCname"
user="userName"
password="userPassword"
vendor = "oracle"
max-id-length = "28">
</database>

Would someone confirm this to be correct?

What version of DataDeploy are you using?
I don't believe that Oracle 9i was supported until DD5.6 SP1 - so if you're using an earlier version it might not work.

I haven't set up DD to connect to Oracle before, so I can't be certain, but I don't THINK that's right. I think that when vendor="oracle", you're connecting natively to the database, not via ODBC. So I don't think that 'localhost' is the correct server for the "db" parameter (unless Oracle is actually running on your TeamSite server, which would be a BAD idea.)

As I said, though, take this with a grain of salt.

I know it is DataDeploy Version = 5.6.0 but I cant find what service pack is installed. I ran the Diag but it doesnt say.

I agree. I cant find real good info on connecting through microsoft ODBC to Oracle.

Is there a reason why you don't want to connect native? ODBC is a nice abstraction to make coding of database access simpler, but it limits functionality in some instances, and I'm sure there would be a performance hit involved in adding the additional layer.

I have a lot of problems with TS and Oracle over Windows, mainly stemming from the outdated perl in TS5. I have had some success going through ODBC, however, if TS supported another way I would jump on it.

Wait. Did you just switch gears? I thought we were talking about DataDeploy, not TeamSite.

DataDeploy DOES have native Oracle support. I think your original config was probably correct, if you change the servername from localhost to whatever your Oracle DB server is, and make sure that the database named matches what's on the server, rather than the ODBC name set up locally.

That is, something like this:

<database name="localdb"

As it turns out, DataDeploy does not work with Alias names.
