Hi all,
Though it may look weird still i would like to know if there is any possibility of having subcategories. I mean generally we have category directory under which we have data-types(or template type). So is it possible to have one more directory i.e. sub-category in between Category and data-type directory.

Sachin

In theory, there probably isn't much stopping you from doing so except the UI -- which I believe only expects to prompt you twice (once for category and once for data-type) and even that might work - of course any code that assumes only two path elements between templatedata/ and data/, presentation/, and/or datacapture.cfg will need to be rewritten.
Have you *tried* setting up an additional directory level - both within the workarea and specified within the templating.cfg file?
My guess is that you will have to treat the additonal directory levels as-if they were one level within the templating.cfg file - because the DTD doesn't provide for nested categories - so the underlying concept of sub-categories isn't supported but you still might be able to organize your templates that way if you want.
I'd suggest trying it (in a DEV environment) and see what happens.

I am not sure that the EAs would be set properly *IF* this soultion works at all .....
I mean I doubt that having another level will be treated well by all the teamplating engine and scripts

I tried it by setting up an additional directory level - both within workarea and specified within the templating.cfg file but it didnt work. The error which i got when i tried to open the DCT from CC professional was "Unable to create a new form of type shared/searchable under the branch //orbportaldev/default/main/Sales. This form was not configured for this branch. "
(my branch name is Sales).
mentioned below is the workarea hierarchy and snippets from templating.cfg
templatedata
|
shared (category)
|
searchable (sub category)
|
flash_test (data type)
|
data and presentation directories
********************* snippets from templating.cfg ***************************************************
<category name="shared/searchable">
<locations>
<branch vpath-regex="/default/main/Sales" />
</locations>
<data-type name="flash_test" dcr-type="iwov">
----------
---------- (rest of the code)
</category>
******************************************************************************************************
Even i tried by changing the category name by sub-category name (trial and error) but to no avail.

Oh well - it was theoretical to begin with. I guess it's just not supported. If you feel you need this kind of functionality you'll have to file a feature request through support and wait until someday when it might get implemented.

It's not an urgent requirement.. I was just asked to see if its possible... since i had no concrete answer so i posted this query on forum to take the help from experienced folks. Before posting it, i went thru lots of docs on support site but didnt find anything relevant.

I'm just curious, but why would you necessarily want a third level of classification like this? I'd think IW would be highly resistant to considering something like this, given all of the other components that rely on the existing two-part classification of the DCR's.

Basically in my project i m integrating teamsite with plumtree. We have two type of categories "Shared " and "Targeted". Till now things were going fine. But now we have few new templates which are shared but not searchable and few are non-searchable. To separate DCT's of these two types i needed 2 sub-categories(searchable and non-searchable) under Shared Category. As it wud be helpful for plumtree guys since there are few fields in metadata which are depends on Category( i mean shared or targeted) and few fields whether DCT is searchable or not.
Even while writing perl script I need to write lot of IF-ELSIF condition for each data-type/template type to check certain conditions which cud be IF-ELSE condition(like if seachable do this ... elseif do this). There few more issues from plumtrre guys which are not discussed formally so i dont have much to say about them rite now.

why can't you live with 2 existing levels and still achieve the functionality? You can have Shared/Searchable and Shared/nonSerachable DCTs, and so on....

Yeah, i also gave the similiar suggestion but plumtree guys have some problem related to metadata and since they havent discuss it openly so i dont have much to say but i asked this question theoritically only just to check if it is possible to have extra sub-category or not.
