Deployment file reporting
bradp
We are running OD 5.5.1 on Solaris 7. I have been given a mandate to report on who is deploying content and
what types of files are being deployed. The documentation does not mention any type of
reporting capabilities and the log files are in a seriously unfriendly format. Upgrading to a OD 5.6 or
6.0 is not an option this year. Does anyone know of a good way to gather this type of information ? I'm
not a PERL coder either.

Brad,
You might want to get in touch with the Interwoven consulting organization (CSO). I recall they implemented a reporting package before OD 5.6 came out that worked with OD 5.5.1. I think it parsed through the logs to generate the reports.

failing that - get someone who *is* a Perl programmer to work with you on it. Parsing the logfiles shouldn't be that difficult, but you need to first figure out what information you're looking for and how to isolate it from all the verbiage contained in the log files.
Alternatively, again probably using Perl, you could have all your deployments run a DNR script and have the DNR script parse the in-memory log file (it's in XML format)... The problem with this route is that I don't believe the information about *who* ran the deployment is there.
Looking at one OD6 logfile, I threw together the following:
my $logfile = shift;
open(IN, "<$logfile") || die " '$logfile' ($!)";
while(<IN>){
chomp;
printf("%s: %s %s %s\n", ((split(/\s+/, $_))[6,1,2,3])) if (/Begin logfile/);
print "$1\n" if (/^.*\s+(DEPLOYING.* to .*)$/);
print "$1\n" if(/^.*\s+(Sending\s*\[.*)$/);
print "$_\n" if(/^(OWNER=|Directories)/);
printf("DONE: %s %s %s\n", (split(/\s+/, $_))[1..3]) if (/Published leg event/);
}
close(IN);
The results were:
