6.5 Search Customization
jornduff
We are in the process of upgrading to TS 6.5 on Solaris and have some questions about how to do some search related customizations. We would like to get rid of customizations we've had to do build into our current environment and utilize as much of the search features of 6.5 as we can.
Here is what I want to do, but not sure how to go about it. From a data capture template, I would like to have a button that the user would press to prompt them for what would like to search for and when they select a particular content type (we have 15-20 different types), the user is presented with search criteria specific to that content type. From the results page, the user can select an item and the path to the chosen item is then placed into the original data record. The reason for this is we provide our users with the ability for a data record to contain a reference to other "related" content items. For example, a "press release" data record can be logically linked to "story" data record so when the press release item is displayed on our site, we can also generate a link to the other related item(s).
Anyone have suggestions how this should be done? My thought is to create jsp pages for each of the content types so that I can customize what the search fields are since they need to vary for each content type a user can search for. Is something like this even possible and if so, does that mean I use Content Services SDK for integration with the existing search functionality of IW 6.5?
Any help or ideas would be appreciated.

I can answer to your question about CSSDK for Search. We are currently working on making it available with TeamSite 6.5 LSP1 due to be released in late March.
thanks
