Not a writable workarea TS 6.1 error

I am trying to configure one of our TS development server for TS 6.1 and I am getting an error when I try to edit a DCR that I have not gotten before in TS 6.1. I was wondering if anyone has an idea of why I am getting this and/or how to fix it.

The problem is that when I go into TS 6.1 and try to edit a DCR I get the error message "Not a writable workarea". I am logged in as an Admin. Now when I log in as a Master and try to edit the same file it lets me edit the file and everything seems to work fine. The other thing that I have seen is that when I log in as an Admin I can't create now DCR either. So I am thinking that this is an access issue but am not sure if it's TS access related or Windows access related. I have check my windows access on all the folders and file and I have full permission.

I am also getting this error when I do a New Form Entry when logged in as a Master. "
An error occurred executing command com.interwoven.ui.formspub.CatTypeListCommand
"

Any ideas?

I have seen this happen if you are using AD and your OS/AD groups are not set up properly. Are you using AD ?

Did this ever work for you ?

Are you on Windows or Solaris ? or Linux (unlikely) ?
TS patch/SP level ?
Are you using AD ? Domain or local gruops ?

I believe we are using AD on Windows, TS 6.1 sp1. I have the security setup so that I have local groups defined on the TS box that have Domain groups as members. I then assign the local groups to the WA, etc.

This is a new box that I am working on so this has never worked on this box, but I have another TS 6.1 dev box that we build about 2 months ago and I didn't have this problem.

Where do I start looking first?

There is a white paper on AD. Read that first. You will find a link to it if you search the forums or the KBs.

Check your other TS box (which does not have any issues) and see whats different in terms or groups, AD setup, iw.cfg, workarea sharing, permissions, etc., etc.

Search the devnet. There has been numerous posts on this matter.

Also search the KBs.

Well, I've checked with my security people and they tell me AD is setup the same on this new box that I am having trouble with as the TS 6.1 box that I am not having trouble with. And as for the config file, they are the same files on both the box that works and doesn't work. So I am at a lost.

This is the error I am seeing in the servletd_out.log.

You should probably download and run the diagnostic script from the support site and open a case with Support. Someone *might* be able to figure out what the problem is here in the forums, but getting support involved at the same time is probably best as they might be able to see something in the data returned from the diagnostic script (which you should NOT post to the forums)

Again.. search the forums. There are many posts that hat tips on how to troubleshoot this.

What do you see in iwtrace.log ?
Are the users AD users or local users ?
What if you set up local group with users directly (without group nesting) members of the group (and use the local group as group for sharing of workarea) ? Do you still have the same issue ?

My users are AD users and I do have the same issue when I setup my local groups with direct users and then share the WA based on that local group. As for my iwtrace.log, it's big, any idea what I might be looking for?

If I search the forums what should I be looking for? Is this AD related or should I be searching for something else?

I would search for "not a writable workarea" to begin with. Possibly "Active Directory" as well.

Based on the information you have provided it *seems to be AD related*. However without looking further into your setup can't sayfor sure. It could be something else.

I would recommend you open a case with suppot. Without you trying to help yourself I don't think anybody can give you any more suggestions here.

I figured out that my problem was with the groups that were assigned to my workareas. Since my backing store was just copied over from another server the workareas on my new server were looking for local groups from the old server. So I used iwchgrp to change the WA group assoication to match the local group on the new server.

I now need to change the group assoication on all of my branches. Do you know if iwchgrp groupName branch should work on Window TS 6.1?

You might be able to do this with iwidmap too.... it might take a bit more time to figure out how, but I think it would be more thorough (just remember to do an iwstoreadm -d default / iwstoreadm -a default after you change the mappings - so that they'll take effect)
