Does TS 6.5 Search Prior Versions of Assets
Bill Klish
Just doing some initial planning around TeamSite 6.5 and had a question come up:
Does the search facility index all versions of a file or only the current version.
For example I have the text TeamSite 6.5 in a word document called ts65.doc. I change that to just read TeamSite and submit the file. If I do a search on the sring "TeamSite 6.5" would the prior version of ts65.doc appear in my results?

Yes it does index all the versions.. That is the reason why the baseline indexing is expensive. The Index Manager has to walk the entire version chain for all assets and index the content.
However, with TeamSite 6.5 you cannot search across all the versions in a single search query. The scope of your search is always a defined "area" in TeamSite - a Workarea, STAGING, a single EDITION, etc. Since you currently cannot search across EDITIONS, you wouldn't be able to find all versions of a single asset. The Search results get filtered by what is present in the area you are searching against.
In your example - since your workarea now contains a version of ts65.doc without the phrase "TeamSite 6.5", you will not see ts65.doc in your result set, if you scope your search to your workarea. However, if you had published an EDITION - say ed1, with the older version of ts65.doc, and you scoped your search to "ed1", then ts65.doc will show up in your result set.
All the versions are indexed, it is just not visible in a search query. I hope this makes sense.
