OD6: replicationFarmLink

I just noticed this (was this in the beta?) - and wanted to make sure I understood it correctly.

Can I now have my deployment configuration files reference a replcationFarmSet from the odnodes.xml file rather than embedding that information within the deployment configuration file itself?

If this is true - it sounds real nice for places where one has things like a DEV/QA/PROD environment setup and the only thing that changes is the hosts involved in the replicationFarmSet ... instead of having to munge the deployment configuration file when pushing it out into the other environments, only the odnodes.xml file would have to be different and the deployment configuration files could go as-is.

Am I interpreting this correctly?

It's the same as if you specify the replication farm in a deployment config. In odnodes, do something like...

<replicationFarmSet>
<replicationFarm name="MyFarm">
<nodeRef useNode="New York" />
<nodeRef useNode="London" />
<nodeRef useNode="Tokyo" />
</replicationFarm>
</replicationFarmSet>

Then, in the deployment config, do something like...

<target>
<replicationFarmLink>
<external name="MyFarm" />
</replicationFarmLink>
</target>

Yes - if you look at the DTD you'll see that replicationFarmSet is now *optional* in the deployment configuration file - so you can keep it in there as before without any problems, but you have the option of removing it from there and storing that information in your odnodes.xml file now.

The DTDs are in IWODHOME/dtd/etc/odnodes.dtd and IWODHOME/dtd/conf/oddeployment.dtd (and all the rest)

i have done the same by including he replication Farmset in nodes.xml.
But when i view the configuration file in the OD GUI and say EDIT, it shows some errors. It says that replicationfarmset should be included in
the same configuration file.

This feature works only if i don't save the configuration file when I EDIT.
If i say save the configuration file again automatically gets the following elements:

<replicationFarm name="">
<nodeRef useNode="" />
</replicationFarm>
</replicationFarmSet>
.
.
.
target usereplicationFarm="">
<replicationFarmLink>
<external name="MyFarm" />
</replicationFarmLink>

Hi. I'm trying to configure OD6 on a Solaris machine and stumbled upon this issue: OD GUI Editor displaying error when deployment configuration XML file lacks a <replicationFarmSet> element (or one without any content).
My understanding is that if I make use of the <replicationFarmLink> / <external> construct there is no need for a <replicationFarmSet> element in the deployment configuration file, since the <replicationFarmSet> is specified in the odnodes.xml, right?

Does anyone know whether the <replicationFarmSet> element is required for the deployment configuration file by the DTD? The DTD I could find (od-home/dtd/conf/oddeployment.dtd) lists it as an optional element but then again it doesn't contain the <replicationFarmLink> element, at all. So I'm unsure whether the DTD is correct or complete.
