VFE: implement drop-down list

Our editors and authors want to select CSS-classes (drop-down list) in Visual Format Editor to put it in table-column HTMLtags.
Has anyone done this before and is there a way to implement this functionality in VFE quickly?

The CSS style drop-down is context sensitive meaning that if you define a class as being specific to a single tag (ie, "TD.highlight {color: yellow;}"), then it will only be selectable when the cursor is inside a TD tag and the class will automatically be attached to that TD tag. Is that what you are asking?

You need to moidfy the following line in $iwhome/httpd/iw/config/visualformatconfig.xml

<style publishstyles="false" href="<path to stylesheet>" equivClass="strict" wrapstylewithdiv="false" preservewordstyles="false" preservewordclasses="false">
