EAs from a previous version

So we are moving from DCRs corresponding to a PDF, to EAs on the PDF.

Part of the WF is that if field 1-4 of the DCR change, do something special for deployment (after the file was submitted).

So in the current WF, grabs the file, users iwattrib and iwcat to get the previous version of the file and checks the DCR.

Now that we are moving to EAs. This needs to change.

It does not appear you can use OID for iwextattr.

So what can I do ?

Here are a couple of options (with problems):

before the submit happens, iwextattr STAGING and iwextattr WA & I can decide if this needs to be done. Then the
question is how do I get this from 1 externaltask to another ?

or

iwlist /iwmnt/default/main/branch/EDITION get the list, subtract 1 and iwextattr -l from there.
Downside is that multiple WFs (some with optional delays) will mean that in some cases, the proper earlier edition might be -2 or 3.
How can I accurately determine what the proper hidden edition is ?

Tips/pointers/RTFMs greatly appreciated

I had to do something similar recently. Why not have the externaltask set a job variable? If you have multiple files, then you'd do a little more work in parsing the job variables, but it seems to address your problem.

You might try parsing the output of iwrlog to find the location of the previous version of the file - it will either list an edition name or a #nnn value which is the name of the hidden edition associated with the actual submit operation that created the previous version. You can then tack that information into the vpath used for iwextattr.

here is the code I hacked out:

($file, $version, $date, $user, $edition, $something, $else, $else1) = split(/\t/,$data);
$edition=~s/\#//;
$lower = $edition-1;
$lower="#".$lower;
$edition="#".$edition;

So $edition gives me the newly created edition, $lower is the edition just before that, which I can use for comparison.

I thought you could just decrement a string but that did not work (with the # in front).

You are ASSUMING that the edition names are all in numerical sequence. That's not really a good idea as that only applies if the '-g' option were used for *every* invokation of iwpublish. If someone supplied their own name for a specific edition (which I do frequently for DEV releases which are destined for production) then the assumption that you will get back a number and can subtract one from it to get the previous edition isn't correct.

Instead - you should read down to the previous version of the file that you're interested in and get *it's* edition name/number. If you're always looking for the immediate predecessor to the current version of the file, you could collect all the data from iwrlog into an array, shift-off the first line (the most recent version) to get to the second line (the next-most-recent version) - verify that there is content (that you didn't try to run this on a one-version file), and *then* split on "\t".

If you don't care about the other columns of data - you could just do something like:my @data = qx(iwrlog -m $vpath);
shift @data;
my $edition = (split(/\t/, shift @data))[4];If you're looking for the edition of a specific version of the file, then you'll have to parse the output from iwrlog a bit more to get the correct line, and then you can get the edition associated with that specific version.
