Custom roles are not supported. Its been a feature request for some time.

What is your requirement that is not met by the 4 role types ? If you provide more details maybe somebody out here will provide you with some ideas.

Our company also feels that this is a limitation of the product. Of the four roles two roles, admin and master cannot be assigned to the users. Most of the companies including ours users authors and editors to work on most of the situations with the help of workflows. It would had been nice to have more roles like casual contributor, who would only log into TeamSite to approve content( will not have an ability to modify content), and content viewer who only needs to view content before the files are migrated to production with out having an ability to either edit/approve content. Most of this can be partially controlled using workflows, but why have to workaround if the ability is provided in the tool itself.
I heard that there are some changes made to the branch security in the coming releases ( v 6.5+) of TeamSite. Not sure if any of this is planned to be addressed.

In TeamSite 5.5.2, we can disable some menu items for a specific user role. However, if we only want to disable a menu item for a small group of users not all users of a specific role, we will not be able do this in TS 5.5.2.

I am hoping if we can do this in TS 6.

Alot of the issues mentioned can be address via ACL.

Using OS groups for content access and workflow roles currently the intended way.

for now let's just hope that IWOV will be able to leap beyond 16 group limit for Solaris.....

Depends on whether the idea of custom roles came before or after TS 4.0 (which is when workflow was introduced, and when the request for better reporting was first made).

People have been asking for customizable roles since 3.X, I remember that well.

Reporting has always been on that list as well, though reporting in 3.X was not bad (since
there was no WF, no need for WF reporting) however it has not changed since then either.
