Notification by receiver server
kshitiz
Hi everyone
I have a query. Consider scenario where a base server is deploying files to a receiver server (which is basically a production server). Now sometimes when the receiver server is down the open deploy will fail. Is there any facility in the Open Deploy Environment where the base server can come to know whenever the receiver server is up so that it can start the deployment.
May be if the receiver server can send some intimation to the base server regarding that or something like that
thnx,
kshitiz

OD 6.0 has an SNMP monitoring facility for detecting if the receiver went down.
If you want to check receiver availability before proceeding with the deployment, you could run a simulated deployment or simple test deployment first. Setting the connection retry count to a low value (feature in OD 6.0) would avoid long wait times that otherwise occur in certain situations.
You could also use a pre-deploy DNR on the source system that does an rexec of the OD server status command on the target host.

Hi
Thnx for the response. But I'm using OD ver 5.5.1. Can you please tell me if the same feature works in this version.

The two OD 6.0 features I mentioned (SNMP and connection retry count) are not available in 5.5.1.
However, you should be able to run a simulated deployment or simple test deployment with 5.5.1. Also using a pre-deploy DNR on the source system that does an rexec of the OD server status command on the target host should work for 5.5.1.
