Metatagger UI from DCR

Hi,

I have a requirement to set some of the values as DCR attributes and some as extended attributes.
What i need to do is create a DCR and add some attributes to it and from within the DCR, i need to call the metatagger UI to set the metadata for that DCR.
So, some of the attributes will be set as DCR attributes and few will be added as extended attributes to that DCR.

How is it possible to call the metatatagger UI from within the DCR??

I tried making a call-out from the DCR and sending the URL to call "http://<server-name>/iw/webdesk/tag" but to set the metadata this way, we need to provide the vpath but i cannot provide the vpath of the DCR from within the DCR as it is not yet saved.

Is there any other way to implement this requirement??

You can use a callout from the DCT - but the callout needs to use FormAPI code to verify that the DCR has been saved first, before executing the call to iwmetadata.cgi. It doesn't make any sense to try to set metadata on an asset that doesn't yet exist.

Unfortunately, while there is a way to check for the DCT/DCR state to see if it requires saving, there doesn't [currently] seem to be a way to do a FormAPI-invoked 'save' *as-if* the user had clicked the Save button (i.e. with all validation routines firing and such). The only FormAPI method for saving does so blindly. I've got a feature request (possibly two?) open for such a function: # 58518 and/or # 52759. If you're interested, please contact Support to add your organization's name to one (or the other, or both) of those feature requests.

I tried saving the DCR and once the save is succeeded, i tried calling iwmetadata.cgi within the javascript which i use to save the DCR.

i gave command as,

var server = window.location.hostname;
IWDatacapture.callServer("http://"+server+"/iw-bin/iwmetadata.cgi");

Is this the correct way of calling the set metadata functionality.

This script doesn't show any impact. I tried putting alerts and the values are coming up fine but this CGI script doesn't get invoked. Are there some other parameters which we need to pass??

You need to tell it what file to tag.
I'm not sure about doing this through FormAPI, but we do something similar with a cgi-callout script which [eventually] calls iwmetadata.cgi like so:

/iw-bin/iw_cgi_wrapper.cgi/iwmetadata.cgi?vpath=/default/main/.../filename&

I tried calling iwmetadata.cgi usiing Form API

It gives me an eror saying Metadata Capture Internal Error: No 'session' argument.

Could anyone please let me know what all paramenters are required to execute this CGI as they are not provided in any metatagger documentation...

It worked with mtmetaproxy.cgi

This cgi script opens up the MT UI in the same DCR window.
IWDatacapture.callServer("http://"+server+"/iw-bin/mtmetaproxy.cgi?path="+metadataItemValue);

What do i need to do to open the MT UI in new window??..

Are there any parameters with IWDataCapture.callServer to do this??

I'm not sure - having not tried this - but since you're trying things out ... try:

IWDatacapture.callServer("http://"+server+"/iw-bin/mtmetaproxy.cgi?path="+metadataItemValue, "target='_blank'");

and see if that resolves the issue

This doesn't work.
I tried even with target =' _new' but even then it didn't work..

I want to call data deploy script after the set metadata functionality is done but as IWdatacapture.callServer() is an asynchronous method, data deploy script method cannot be called after setting metadata...So i just want to open Metatagger UI in different window and again save the DCR once the Metatagger window window is closed, so that the extended attributes also gets data deployed.

Do you have any other solution on this??

I'd try use a cgi-callout and use a wrapper script to surround the call to the metadata CGI - I think it's easier then trying to do this through client-side FormAPI code which would need to invoke server-side javascript/cgi code.
