DD5.6 / TS6.5

I'm curious whether anyone else has run into this, and if so what solution they came up with.

We have TeamSite 6.5 running on Solaris, and although we are using OD 6.0.1 we aren't quite ready to cut over to DD 6.0.1 - so we're still using DD 5.6.

Our use of DD is purely through the CLT iwdd.ipl (i.e. no DAS)

iwdd.ipl apparently looks for iwhome/tools/java1.3/jre/bin/java, however, TeamSite 6.5 has iwhome/tools/java/jre/bin/java (no 1.3).

The simplest solution would be to make a symlink in iwhome/tools
An alternative would be to find the path references and fix them.

I'm curious if anyone else has run into this - if so, what did they do, and if Todd or any of the OD/DD engineers are out there - is there an "official" recommendation?

DD 5.6 isn't supported for use with TS 6.5. Compatibility matrix shows...

DD 5.6 --> TS 5.5.2, 6.0, 6.1
DD 6.0 --> 5.5.2, 6.0, 6.1
DD 6.0.1 --> 5.5.2, 6.0, 6.1, 6.5

That's what I was afraid of - there are so many different compatibility matrixes on the support site it was kind of difficult to figure out which one to look at - and I guess when we changed our target from 6.1 to 6.5 we lost the window of compatibility with DD 5.6.

So - I guess we're going to bite-the-bullet and try to get this working with DD 6.0.1.

Okay - next question - moving forward to DD6.0.1

Is there any *requirement* for having event reporting enabled if you are going to use DD6.0.1 (in NON-DAS mode -- i.e. as-if it were iwdd.ipl)?

I just want to check because the odbase.xml file that's created / modified when you install the DD component piece seems to have this enabled when I'm pretty sure our original odbase.xml file did not.

You don't need the TS event server for doing DD 601 command line deployments. However, in 601, if you enable standalone DD deployments, the base server is indeed listening for DAS events as well.

Before you proceed, be sure to check out "Migration Notes for DataDeploy 5.6", which starts on p. 20 of the Database Deployment for OpenDeploy Administration Guide, Release 6.0.1.

Fyi, in 602 you have more flexibility to turn on/off DD and DAS independently within the base server. Also in 602, the iwsyncdb.cfg file goes away; its contents are consolidated into odbase.xml. (602 beta is available now, GA targeted for end of March.)

Well you just answered one of my questions (hopefully) which was going to be for a cheat-sheet on how to migrate from calling iwdd.ipl to using DD6.

I remember the last time I tried playing around with this I became rather confussed - I'm hoping this time will be better. If not, you can expect to see a bunch more posts from me ;-)

As for iwsyncdb.cfg - I don't think we're using that - I believe all we're using [currently] is iwdd.ipl with a ddclient.cfg file - and it's being executed from a wrapper script that's being called as a DNR script from OD.

We ***might*** be able to use the tighter OD/DD synchronization features - but first I want to try to get this working with as few changes as possible (that was why we were trying to do this with DD5.6 to begin with... oh well ;-)

6.0.2 *might* be an option - but that depends on where we are in the scheme of things (no pun intended) when GA rolls around.
