diff btw apache , tomcat , jakarta

can anybody tell me what is the difference btw apache , tomcat and jakarta.
i know tomcat is a application server based on java technology - so can i called it java server .
apache is a web server like windows IIS.
apache is a association and they a have a project name jakarta -which works on java technology and one of them project names is tomcat.
i am not sure jakarta by itself a server yes|no?

Typically people think of it this way:
Tomcat = is a java servlet engine, or application server.
Apache = is a web server
Jakarta affectionally known as The Jakarata Project is a community that maintains open source java solutions, one of course being tomcat.
