TeamSite 6.5 Search

ReggieRWalker

With the introduction of search in TS 6.5, does that include the ability to integrate other search engines?

I am not sure but you can integerate through CSSDK.

TeamSite 6.5 Search is powered by Verity and it is very tightly integrated. Because of the tight integration, you won't be able to just plug in another search engine.

If you really want to build another search solution you can do so by doing the following.
Subscribe to TeamSite events using the event subsystem and then use CSSDK to build a custom application that can pull content from TeamSite and push it into your search engine for indexing. You will also have to provide a search interface to allow for searching on that index. You have to remember that the OOTB search solution in TeamSite is pretty rich and extensive. Rebuilding all of those features is obviously not a trivial customization.

I am not convinced that it is worth the effort unless you have a mandate to use the other search solution.

Some people might be reluctant to rely on a Search feature that could disappear in the next major product release, much like the search feature in TS 5.5.2 that didn't make it to 6.x.

Migrateduser

I didn't even know there was a search feature in 5.5.2

nipper

There was XYZFind which was purchased by Interwoven and integrated with TeamXML. It still does
exist but since TXML never made it out of 5.5.2, draw your own conclusion.

The TeamSite Search solution in 6.5 is much more advanced and comprehensive compared to the 5.5.2 search solution. We are also looking to enhance this solution in future releases and so I don't see it going away anytime soon.

Does this new search feature allow you to search in DCR files?

smenon

Yes.. TeamSite search allows for searching full text, metadata, file properties and DCR fields.. This search can be simple keyword searches or it can be more complex queries using keyword, phrase, content type, form and file properties.

Thx for the info on the search feature. How long have you been the TeamSite product manager? I seem to remember David Yun used to be product manager? What happened to him?

Migrateduser

David Yun left Interwoven a little while ago. The TeamSite Marketing team is Kevin Cochrane, Bill Hustad, Sunil Menon, Mike Svatek, and Anne Curran.

Sunil,

can you give me more information or tell me where I can find it on the new search facility within TS 6.5, especially the

'Full-text search of over 200 file formats including Microsoft Office, Adobe PDF HTML, XML, and others'

could it be used as a 'find and replace' type facility to help a developer change a key word within a site eg finding all the files that contain that word or is this facility available elsewhere?

Thanks in advance, this is my first post and I have only been working on teamsite for 3 weeks and still getting to grips with it all!!

Search is documented in the TeamSite Admin manual. I'd start there The manuals are available on the support site (valid support login required):

I've noticed that you've mentioned a number of times to your users that the event subsystem is open for use by custom application. I've also seen other posts where it's said that it is not open for use.

Is it available for use? How likely is the system to change if we do chose to use it?

John Cuiuli

Migrateduser

Johnny, I think you've caught us there. I believe the goal is to publish the event subsystem data, but I don't think we do right now. Until we do, you're right it's a catch 22.

If this is a requirement for anyone out there, please file an enhancement request with support, so it can be tracked.

Thanks for the official word Lissa. Glad someone came out with it.

I have to say that the event subsystem has been a source of frustration.
