Web CMS (TeamSite)
workarea path variable
Jayrod
Hi everybody, in our current project we have a development environment workarea and a production/final release area. We often create or modify DCR's PT's and other scripts to be used by them in the development workarea, but often times they use calls to other progrmas, and for the time being we have the scripts paths hardcoded. for example, if we want the date in a DCR field we would use this
<inline command="/cms/iw-home/iw-perl/bin/iwperl /iwmnt/default/main/CCMC/WORKAREA/development/cgi-bin/currdate.ipl"/>
Now the problem is that when we move our files from development to production we need to go through and change all the paths to where the new workarea is.
What I need is a one line replacement for /default/main/CCMC/WORKAREA/development so we could have in our DCR's something like this
<inline command="/cms/iw-home/iw-perl/bin/iwperl /iwmnt/$WORKAREAVARIABLE/cgi-bin/currdate.ipl"/>
I saw something earlier that I had hoped would work in $ENV{IW_WORKAREA} but it does not return anything it seems.
Any help would be appreciated.

The
$ENV{IW_WORKAREA}
value is available from
within
the inline handler, not from the DCT that invokes it.
You could create a "wrapper" piece of code that takes a parameter that specifies the "real" code to execute. That would allow you to do whatever substitiution you need

I believe I suggested the idea of a feature request for a token to be used for inline commands - but I don't remember if it was ever filed (and am pretty sure it hasn't been implemented yet) - You should probably contact Support to either get added to the existing FR (if it exists) or create a new one (if you do the latter, please post the information about the FR number and it's description here - so others who are interested can register their interest by contacting Support and attaching their organization's name to that FR)
For the time being though - you probably need to write a custom menu item or workflow with externaltask script to perform the copy-and-modify steps for you.

just to make it easier, you could create a 'template' DCT, that would contain placeholders for the right paths. With one command line (or with a custom menu item) you will be able then to change the underlying DCT.
