Running iwextattr -g command from tpl

System

I am trying to get an extended attribute for the date a file was first published so that I can present it in the generated page. However, while I don't get any errors on preview or generate, the $pubdate value is always null. Here's the code I'm using to get $pubdate. I have tried every modification I can think of, but I have to admit that I am no iw-perl expert...

<iw_perl>
use TeamSite::Config;
my $iwhome = TeamSite::Config::iwgethome();
my $file = iwpt_get_ofile_name();
my $pubdate = `$iwhome\bin\iwextattr -g Published-Date $file`;
chomp $pubdate;
</iw_perl>

Lower in the tpl, I attempt to output $file and $pubdate:

pubdate: <iw_value name="$pubdate"/>
file: <iw_value name="$file"/>

The output is (note that pubdate is null):
pubdate:
file: Y:\default\main\newstool\apc\WORKAREA\slphelan\apc\apc2079.html

I run the pubdate command from the command line using the exact file path output below and I get the correct value back, but for some reason, when I generate the template, it doesn't return any value at all. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

File may not exist when you are generating/previewing - can you get/set the attrib on the DCR instead? Also add:

my $pubdate = `$iwhome\bin\iwextattr -g Published-Date $file 2>&1`;

so you can see any error message (file doesn't exist, etc.).

You might try ammending your code a bit:

use TeamSite::Config;
my $iwhome = TeamSite::Config::iwgethome();
my $iwmnt = TeamSite::Config::iwgetmount();
chomp(my $file = iwpt_get_ofile_name()) =~ s|^$iwmnt||;
my $pubdate = localtime();
$pubdate = `$iwhome/bin/iwextattr -g Published-Date $file` if (-f "$iwmnt/$file");
chomp $pubdate;

See if that helps at all.

Thanks -

From John's suggestion, I am getting the following results when I output $pubdate and $file in the body of the page:
pubdate: The filename, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect.
file: Y:\default\main\newstool\gpc\WORKAREA\slphelan\gpc\gpc6.html

I am still puzzled as to what syntax it could be looking for. When I run the exact command executed in $pubdate from the command line using this file path, I get a valid result. The only thing I change is I plug in our correct path for $iwhome. Here's the command line I run:

>>f:\SrvApps\Interwoven\TeamSite\bin\iwextattr -g Published-Date Y:\default\main\newstool\gpc\WORKAREA\slphelan\gpc\gpc6.html

The result from the command line is: 7/6/04

Fish - Thanks for your suggestion. I got a 'could not read DCR' error with the code, but I modified it some (the =~ s|^$iwmnt||; appeared to be the culprit) and I still didn't get a value - probably because it things the syntax is incorrect from above.

Could it be that you have to pass a different format of the filepath from the command line than you do from the tpl?

Thanks-

Hmm - not sure what's happening - but try this instead:use TeamSite::Config;
(my $iwhome = TeamSite::Config::iwgethome()) =~ tr|\\|/|;
my $iwmnt = TeamSite::Config::iwgetmount();
(my $file = iwpt_get_ofile_name()) =~ tr|\\|/|;
(my $vpath = $file) =~ s|^$iwmnt||;
my $pubdate = localtime();
$pubdate = `$iwhome/bin/iwextattr -g Published-Date $vpath` if (-f "$file");
chomp $pubdate;The problem before might have been my trying to include the regex for $file in the same line as the chomp() which actually wasn't needed at all. In this case I've created a new variable ($vpath) for holding the vpath rather than the file path (file path may work, but it is not "correct") and I also changed all the path separators from '\' to '/' - which shouldn't be, but may be needed.

See if that helps.

It worked! And I think I understand what you did, so thank you SO much!
