BackUps
Bhargav Coca
Hello Everyone,
I am working on Teamsite 6.1 OD6 DD6 Versions On Windows 2000. Our Management team have requested us to make a 'Backup' of all our applications. Can any one suggest me some of the ways to do it, Please also let me know which one is more efficient and reliable.
Thank You
Jessica

Backups are a good thing.
I think we need more information to exactly what your environment is and what you need.
Questions for you to answer:
What is your environment ? TS 6 on DOS. Do you have a Dev server ? Is the backingstore being backed up ? How ? If you do not have a
Dev server, do you have a config branch where the customized files are versioned ? Is the backingstore frozen when you run your backup ?

Knowledge bases are a good thing too
Run a search for backup and the first hit is:

The general idea is laid out plain and simple on page 3. Get that going and you will be well on your way.

Not really, Jessica said management wanted a backup of applications. Which to me implies iw-home, config files, etc.
Of course the backingstore MUST be backed up. However if you lose your iw-home drive and do not have it backed
up, you are seriously hosed. That was what I was mentioning.

Hi,
I am on a windows environments, so my backing drives would be mailnly Y: and
, if i am not backing them up i am loosing lot of stuff. But the problem is Management or Infrastructure team would not backup a Y: drive. As my understanding of interwoven goes, Never play with u'r Y: that may cause lot of troubles. Well this leaves me with a option of mapping my Y: drive to any other drive where it can be used as a single drive for alll my back ups, this leads to
. But here is an other problem, my database managers say that they have only one drive S: where all my configuration files and all my templates and workflows should go into, how can this be accomplished? I've never done backup before , i would appretiate if some one can give me some more interesting suggestions

Where is your iw-store ? Likely on the D drive. So if you back that up you may be good to go. Look for a directory that is called iw-store, that needs to be backed up. Backing up your iw-home as well is a very good idea. The Y: drive is a virtual disk, all of the physical files are located in the iw-store directory, so that is what you back up.
It is also a VERY good idea to test out your back and restore procedure. Try loading the backup on another server & see if it works (it will need a different license) but test it out. The last thing you want to know when you recover from a crash is that your backups are hosed. It is not a pretty site.
