missing slashes

In my datacapture.cfg, I used formAPI to look for the path of the DCR:
var pathName = IWDatacapture.getItem("GeneralInfo/path").getValue();
and then passed this value to an UpdateDatabase.ipl as the following:
params.path = pathName;
IWDatacapture.callServer("http://pwcm02.dpw.co.la.ca.us/iw-bin/updateDatabase.ipl",params);
When I did an alert on pathName from the datacapture.cfg, it came out to be this:
Y:/default/main/Intranet/WORKAREA/shared/templatedata/Site/SiteHomePage/data/HRD_mywcm1\Index,
but when I output it in updateDatabase.ipl it came out like this:
Y:/default/main/Intranet/WORKAREA/shared/templatedata/Site/SiteHomePage/data/HRD_mywcm1Index, which missed the slahes (\).

Does anyone know why? This code worked before we installed TS5.52 SP6

The \I is the problem. javascript understands forward slashes and also understands back-slashes as escape sequeneces so \Index looks like escape-I + ndex

However - it's not clear if this is only a problem with the string being printed out or also with the string being used internally by the rest of your code.

I think that is the problem. When I hard code the path in the updateDatabase.ipl, it works. How can I change the backward slash to a forward slash?

Perl: $varname =~ tr|\\|/|;
JavaScript&colon; varname = varname.replace(/\\/g, '/');

So it would be something like this in javascript
params.path= pathName.replace(/\\/g, '/');

Yes, but you might need to put several escape characters in your regex, not just one. Even though the code is decidedly Javascript, it may be parsed by Perl initially because it's all being interpreted as such -- even if it's just outputted text, as in the case of HTML and Javascript.

So, if it doesn't work with two escape characters, try three or four. I've had to use more than 6 to do rudimentary things. It looks stupid but it was the thing to do.
