hi,

i need to pass on the job id to the external task from the wft file? how can i get the job id of the current workflow instance in wft file?

The external task will already have the job id passed to it.
There are a few variables that are passed automatically to the external tasks. The first is the job id, followed by the task id, then the areapath and after that the files attached.

Or can you not use that for some reason?

the externaltask script is passed the jobid automatically - you don't have to do anything.
