OD 6 to OD 4 receivers ?
nipper
Hope Todd is on.
Does anyone know if there are any compatibility issues with a 6.X server pushing to 4.X clients ? I know
new functionality will not work, but if it worked with a 4.5 sender, will it work with a 6.0.1 sender ?
I am on site doing a 4.5 to 6.X upgrade & the customer does not want the receivers upgraded (yet)
TIA
Andy

I am almost positive that it will NOT work.
The architecture of 4.x and (5.x / 6.x) is significantly different and all 4.x will respond with is a NACK without any version information.
About the only way you could get this to work would be with a DNR script to run the old OD4 client CLTs to talk to the old 4.x server -- which would be a bit of a hack [mildly put?]

OD 5.5.1 had a way to configure for deployments between 5.5.1 and 4.5.2. You'd have to consult the old manuals for how that was done.
Although it wasn't officially supported, it apparently continued to work for OD 5.6.
I have no idea if it would still work in 6.0.1. For sure it isn't supported.

As I recall the way it worked in OD 5.5.1 was you specified an "OldODHome" or some such which pointed to the OD 4 ODhome directory and OD did sort of an internalized DNR to invoke OD4 client to send whatever files were being asked to be sent to the OD4 server [receiver].
If the parameters for OldODHome (or whatever) don't exist anymore it's doubtful the code for utilizing it still exists - and so you'd pretty much have to do your own DNR script for doing the same kind of thing.

Thanks Todd, how about a 6.1 sender and a 4.5 sender on the same box ?
We are converting 17 branches and cannot lock all 17 at once and migrate at once, we
have about 50 production servers.

The 4.x "sender" was a CLT -- only the receiver was a server.
The 5.x / 6.x sender and receiver are both servers.
The installation directories are different - so there should be no problem having both a 6.x Base Server and a 4.x client installed on the same server.
What you cannot do is have a 4.x [receiver] server and a 6.x receiver on the same system listening to the *same port* -- you can have both of them on there, but they have to be configured to listen to different ports.

Adam is right. In fact, you can have a 4.x, 5.x and 6.x OD all on the same system provided no ports are in conflict.
