OpenAPI

We are trying to use Open API from Java application which resides on different Unix box.
We have a firewall in between these two boxes.
To restrict opening of firewall to just one port for RMI invocation
(e.g. port 13024 in our case)
We modified
/interwoven/iw-home/iwopenapi/openapi.cfg
OPENAPI.rmi_port_number_min: 13024
OPENAPI.rmi_port_number_max: 13024
However we find that with these changes the Operations service does not start.
So we made the following changes
OPENAPI.rmi_port_number_min: 13025
OPENAPI.rmi_port_number_max: 13026
It failed saying that it needs more ports.
Does it need minimum of 10 ports?
Is there a way by which we can work through by opening only one port through the firewall?

Hello,
Unfortunately OpenAPI needs a 100 ports to operate. This is because of RMI restrictions - usually the rmiregistry process listens on port 1099 and delegates requests to the respective OpenAPI listeners (there are 100 listeners on ports in the given port range). There is a way to tunnel RMI through HTTP (called HTTP Tunneling for obvious reasons). The details can be found on this article in jGuru -
http://java.sun.com/developer/onlineTraining/rmi/RMI.html
under the Firewall section. There are a lot more resources on the web, on how to do this. Do a google search for RMI HTTP Tunneling to get more help.
Best Regards,
Narendra
