Workflow help
tsrookie
Gidday all,
this is what I want to happen
author submits a file
default metadata is set by external task and added as Teamsite ea's (this bit works),
cgitask is then invoked to get additional metadata
When I create a simple workflow the same cgitask as a start task it works but when combined with the external task it doesn't transition to the cgitask
files attached
Any help appreciated
Thank you
Colin

When I create a simple workflow the same cgitask as a start task it works but when combined with the external task it doesn't transition to the cgitask
What do you mean by "
doesn't transition
" ? Do you mean that it hangs in the externaltask - that the externaltask never ends?
Or do you mean that the owner of the cgitask needs to manually
Start Task
the cgitask?
My guess is - it's the latter - and for that you can find numerous explanations in these forums, or you can read the manual or read the workflow tutorial supplement -- and you'll find the reason why.

Thanks Fish,
Ok, after further investigation, it doesn't automatically transition to the cgi task.
It has to be manually started by the assignee. I'd like it to automatically start.

I realize you might like it to do so - but if you're running an externaltask before the cgitask - it doesn't matter what you want.
If you can collapse the code for the externaltask script into the cgitask script and the relationship between the cgitask and its predecessor fit one of the 3 possible connections that support immediatly running cgitasks - you'll be able to do it - otherwise you're basically out of luck. (if you peruse the forums you may find a number of hack "workarounds" but they are just that - hacks and are not guaranteed to work)

Thanks Fish,
If I make my cgi task a start task and set immediate to true it runs without user interaction.
Your tutorial is the most useful workflow resource I have found.
