I have a text file in which on one line, I have "&".
When my DCR starts reading the text then it is giving error. I am using following code to read lines of text file
open (fhLineOfFile,"$strNameOfFile");
$strLineOfFile = <fhLineOfFile>;
Please tell me how I can read text file having this special character

I am not sure I understand what you mean by "When my DCR starts reading the text". Do you have a callout or something that gets the DCR to read in from a text file?

Maybe you should post a little more of the code and where it is being called. I just created a small perl script and a text file with an "&" in it and used your code and it read it fine.
Maybe you can post more of the script and the exact error you are receiving.

This is the code I am Using to dynamically generate containers by reading the values from file.
It is working fine if my file has no "&" in any line, otherwise it is saying Internal server error.

Oh ok. I follow now. Now what if you used the "&" instead of a "&" in the text file? Is that feasible?

That is fine, But I don't want to modify my text files as they are huge in number.
Couldn't I read & then replace the same for future use.

You seem to have some typos in the code you posted - e.g.:

It might also be nice to understand a bit of the underlying philosophy behind what you're trying to do such as why you expect to find '#'s within the various lines of text, and are you really trying to build a DCT from some other source?
There also appears to still be missing code (such as the declaration and initialization of
$iContainerCount
and
$iItemCount
).
You also will probably want to fix all those
 
's to be
 
;
's
The logic in the code seems a bit odd too - like the fact that you read from
fhLineOfFile
once before the loop and
twice
within the loop.
Not knowing exactly what you are trying to do - all I can suggest is a cleaner construct of the code:

Hope that helps a little bit - but as I said - with a better understanding of what you are actually trying to do - the better chance you have of getting solutions to your problem - it's always possible that there is a flaw early on in the logic that makes the entire problem disappear when corrected rather than trying to fix code that's already in existance.

I could spend a lot of time critiquing your code - (and I may do that anyway ;-)) - but what I don't see here is (a) the data which *might* have '&'s in it, and (b) where you want to transform those '&'s to something else.
As for some early critiques ...

@}You're starting $iContainerCount with a value of 1, but everytime you access it you're accessing $iContainerCount+1 - which means you're skipping the first two (0, 1) elements of
@acFilesInDir
. Was this intentional? if so - why?
