As much as I might like to tell you whom to vote for, you've no doubt heard all the rhetoric from both sides (or all three sides in some States) - so if you are a U.S. citizen - get out and Vote Today!!!

As hotly contested as this election is, it is important to know your voting rights. Please check out this attachment.

I'm figuring voter turnout to be in the high 60's today, versus the far less than half in previous presidential elections.

Voted this morning at 6:00 AM CST and the polling place was already hopping. In fact heard several poll workers say that this was the first time they had seen a line at poll opening in a good long time.

I'm secretly hoping that the lines will be much shorter when we go at around 4 pm EST today. Let me paraphrase a line from Leno last night, "One clear advantage to the long lines at tomorrow's polls -- that'll be the time to stand in line for flu shots!"

Can not wait to see the major networks flounder on trying to predict the outcome!

I was personally embarassed to be an American four years ago and I might tonight, as well. Didn't the networks learn ANYTHING from four years ago? I mean, many of them declared Al Gore the winner well before any data had even come in. Say what you will about the outcome, it was irresponsible to mask a prediction as actual news. Some of those idiots are no better than the hosts of those Hollywood "news magazine" shows.

Of course I want my candidate to win, but above that I hope that the race is not even close for the losing side to contest the results.

Interestingly enough the company that the networks used in 2000 was fired and a new company was brought in to do the exit polling. Also the networks are gonna make it more apparent that their information is based on exit polling and statistics as opposed to actual precinct results.

So far this election season the only close to independent view from a news program/network I have seen is on NPR.

About the exit polling company, I learned from a Fox News anchor who was interviewed on The Daily Show (hey, I watch it because it's funny... see my Member Spotlight) that it's actually the same company, just with a different name this time.

I'm an avid listener to NPR, but even that's tough. Yes, it's less biased than any of the major networks or cable news channels, etc., but in certain markets (Philadelphia definitely included), you'll have heavily liberal affiliates and this does affect the reporting. But, it's the closest thing to the BBC that we have in this country, unfortunately!

What does No Candidate cares state voter! mean?

During the debates - I found CSPAN to have far less in the way of spin-doctors and thus far more enjoyable to watch.

I'm hoping to see a turnout in the %80's!

FWIW - the DOW is at 10131 and the NASDAQ is at 1997 - which probably means as much as all the other "indicators" ;-)

Dave mentioned he was a swing state voter so he is from a state where Kerry and Bush campaigned heavily and I am from Illinois , a supposed blue state. Hence both Bush and Kerry visited our State only 1 or 2 times. Which I interpret to mean Kerry believes he has Illinois in the bag and Bush assumes Kerry has Illinois in the Bag, so why would either of them bother spending money here. So maybe that is a blessing in disguise and we were saved the tv ad onslaught.

Fortunately Chicago Public Radio is mostly neutral and left it up to listeners to make their own decision. I also heard that in 2002 that polling company had a major network failure, and that was also a contributing factor to their "re-imaging"

The markets are up because, according to what I read anyway, the popular belief is that the race WILL NOT be contested -- which is a blessing. One could read into it further and interpret it as the market feeling a Bush win. But honestly, I think the market would be up if either candidate won uncontested.

You'd be surprised how few presidental ads we see here in Texas. For some reason, both candidates seem to regard it as a given for Bush.

Tom DeLay is another story.

Supposedly no. But I do not listen to the liberal media. That last I heard was the democrat was 40 points ahead of the Republican in the polling done by the Liberal media. Just the fact that Jack Ryan was crucified in said media due to propositioning his own wife is beyond me.

Gotta love the Chicago Tribune for "working on behalf of the people"...... yeah right.

My wife voted for Keyes in the 2000 primary (I happened to vote for McCain) -- but with Illinois being such a union-strong state as it is, I guess it figures that Obama would fair better.

I wonder what voter actually cares who their local paper endorses... yeah, like we're supposed to act SURPRISED when the NY Times or the Washington Post endorses Kerry? C'mon...

I think the endorsements are primarily used by the lesser-known county and local candidates as campaign ad fuel. They're certainly not worth anything more than that.

I think if you did a poll

. You would be scared by the number of people who would base their vote on media endorsements for races up to State Senate level. Although it is hard to have all the facts down to what the county corner believes about to embalm or not to embalm..

It's strange that voting isn't on the weekend here.

Wouldn't there be a higher turn out if people didn't have to worry about fitting it in around work?

Not this year. My wife told me a 2 hour wait at 10 am.

That is funny. That would mean civil servants would have to work on the weekends

Her in Oh-ray-gon we get to vote by mail. No lines. Except that I filled my wife's ballot out by mistake. Whoops.

Ha! Good one. But we were voting the same way, so I can't take credit for that being the reason. I can only use the "I'm a moron" reason. There was something about it being a Class C Felony when you sign your name to someone else's ballot, so if you don't hear from me for a few months, you'll know why.
