datadeployment error

Hi,
I am working on Teamsite 6.1 on Win 2003, With OD 6.0 and DD 6.0. My " database.xml " used to have 'dbschema' in it along with database information, now my " database.xml " contains only my database info. When i deploy using workflow, my workflow calls " deploymetadata.ipl " which calls tsg_dd.xml and this file references to database.xml.
Now what i wanted to do is pull out the schemas out of the database.xml and save each and every schema as a *.cfg/*.xml file and create and still should be able to deploy using my workflow.
I am attaching my modified " database.xml" and my tsg_dd.xml and my schema.xml
I have tried it from the command line too but its still giving me a datadeploy error, please help me

Look in

\WebApps\Internal\Interwoven\OpenDeployNG\log for a file named something based on your deployments, with an extension of .DD. That should be a log of the last run. Look through it to see if any errors jump out. If not, then post it here.

the log file said that its a failed data deploy, I am attaching the log file, i have tried in different ways from the command line, every time it was the same error. I am attaching the error log file.

You've got a couple of issues going on here.

1. You appear to be trying to do variable substitution $dbschema, etc) but those literal strings are being passed to DD. I don't think that's what you want. You might want to look at the code that's invoking DD

2. (and this is the cause of the error your seeing) The escaping of quote marks (\" is causing you grief. DD is seing something like this (form your log):

DD args  "expDate=$expDate"  "editors=$editors_string"  "webserverURL=$webserverURL"  "schema=$schema"  "teamsiteURL=$teamsiteURL"  "emails=$editor_email_string"  "DCR=$dcrPath"  "iwdd=tsg"  cfg=D:\WebApps\Internal\Interwoven\OpenDeployNG\conf\tsg\tsg_dd.xml

when what you want is this:

DD args  expDate=$expDate  editors=$editors_string  webserverURL=$webserverURL  schema=$schema  teamsiteURL=$teamsiteURL  emails=$editor_email_string  DCR=$dcrPath iwdd=tsg  cfg=D:\WebApps\Internal\Interwoven\OpenDeployNG\conf\tsg\tsg_dd.xml

I think you need to take a look at the code that is running DD, to see why
A) your variables aren't being substituted properly

those quotes are being escaped improperly

The log indicates you're missing the required -k iwdd=..., but your command string seems to have it included.

Could be a problem with the order of your -k parms, or perhaps there's a problem handing multiple parms (although I thought that would all work.) You might try it with just the iwdd parm and hard code the rest to test things out.

Note also that OD/DD 6.0.1 is now available. There were improvements made to the OD/DD integration. Not saying it'll fix your problem, but you may want to do your testing with the newer version.

Yes same thing again, I have tried to update my DCR and deploy it through my workflow it doesn't deploy, its gives me a datadeploy error, If i execute the command from my log file it deploys fine. Don't know whats happening internally. where do you thing the problem might be with? Please give me some suggestions

As suggested already, look at the exact command in your script (or whatever process is invoking the deployment) and compare it with the one that works if you run from a shell.

yes you are right, and the deployment is working fine when i run it from my log file, I have to make small change though instead of tsg/tsg_dd.xml i have to use tsg/general_faq1.xml. thats because i have the DCR to use this schema when ever i try to deploy any dcr created under this name. Now what i am trying to do is generalize my schema for my command instead of tsg/tsg_dd.xml, i wanted my invoke command to show tsg/$schema where shema will be my dbscema defined to use by the dcr which is created under its name.
As my deployment invoking file is deploymetadata.ipl , i have made this change in this file but its still not taking my general schema file, i don't know why....?

When you're building the command line that is running DD, are you using single or double quotes? My guess is that you're using single quotes, based on the contents of the log you reported earlier. Single quptes prevent the expansion of variable names into their corresponding values, and would also explain the backslash characters that were present in the logs.

Using double quotes is probably what you want.

i think double quotes or single quotes doesn't make much difference when i am executing it from the command line, cuz its not taking my general schema into consideration at all, i have to specify my schema every time i execute it from command line. Though i have made changes in my deploymetadata.ipl file it doen't takes it , always show tsg/tsg_dd.xml no matter what.

See this command, i have made changes as you said, still no change, it doesn't recognize a file called $schema.xml, because i wanted this $schema to take a dbschema file called general_faq.xml which is in tsg folder but this is not doing so, it is not taking this file. Please let me know if i need to make some more modifications.

What is the value of $schema from where you are calling DD ?

value of $schema is my dbshema name in this contxt it would be general_faq.xml
So my dcr which is faqtest12 will use this schema to deploy .

In your earlier post the command you posted contained the string

$schema.xml

If the value of $schema is general_faq.xml the whole things would evaluate to

general_faq.xml.xml

Maybe thats the problem ?

yes you are right, I have tried removing .xml and tried it works fine from command line, but when i change my dbschema it doesn't work. I am thinking that the $schema should take the schema required to process my particular dcr, in this second case i am using a DCR which has to take general_links.xml instead of general_faq.xml. But to my surprise its not doing so, can you tell me why ?

Without understanding how you are invoking the deployment its a little hard.
I assume you are invoking DD from a Perl scritp or shell script ? Can you post your script ? Or atleast the relevant portions of it.

yes you are right again, i am invoking my Data deploy from a *.ipl file, which refers to tsg_dd.xml file which connects to databse.xml and it works fine. You can see my earlier command line which shows the same thing. In my *.ipl file i have changed this reference to $schema instead of tsg_dd.xml. and i am saving my dbschemas in the same area where my tsg_dd.xml is. I know that this works cuz it worked yesterday with general_faq schema. Now when i do the same procedure with general_links it doesn't work. I don't know where it is going wrong.

Anyway, what I am suggesting is to do something like the following in your Perl code.

See what $command prints before you execute it. Run the same thing from a shell and you might get idea if the variables are the problem or something else.
