Assigning Files to Workflow Task
pacer11
Hi,
Does anyone know if you can do the following scenario in workflow:
1. Job Owner creates Job
2 Job Owner has an initial usertask of adding all files associated with the workflow to the initial task
3. Job Owner has cgitask that assigns specific files within task to other tasks that have not been activated yet
In other words, each of the subsequent tasks after the cgitask should have different files specific to the task and not all the files from the start task.
Any ideas are appreciated!

I don't
think
that's supported, but it's an interesting idea.
I think that the movement of attached files is handled by the system when a task transitions. You might be able to play some games with dummy tasks that activate at the same time as the CGI task, and have the CGI task maniplulate the attached files of those (now active) dummy tasks, but that's a hack, and I'm sure it's loaded with problems. And that assumes that all of the tasks which are supposed to follow the CGI task run in parallel. If they're serial, then that won't work.

Your idea is brilliant and it just might work.
It just so happens that the tasks that follow the CGI task ARE in parallel so I can esentially create x number of dummy tasks that correspond to the number of parallel tasks that come after the CGI Task and instead of the "pred v" of the parallel tasks being the cgi task...it will be the associated dummy task therefore in theory the files from the dummy tasks are then passed to the parallel user tasks.
I will defintely post a solution to this if it works!!
Thanks much!!

FYI,
Dummy Tasks can not add files either programatically or through the user interface once the task is activated.
While there is no defined areavpath element in the dummy tasks, I am not sure why a files element was defined since the files defined should be relative to the areavpath and you can't add files anyway.
Oh Well, it was an idea.

So use an external task with a do-nothing command. Then transition it explicity from your CGI task.
You give up too easily.
