QuickSearch context search in web
Ben_inform
The quick search in the web has a "Contains" option which means you can search based on context, like in DeskSite.
This is just what my client needs but it only seems to work if the folders in the workspace were created directly in the workspace as opposed to being shortcuts to folders created elsewhere.
This is an issue as my client needs to be able to manage a large folder structure , say as a public folder tree, but then have multiple workspaces taht have shortcuts to the folder structure. The issue is that the context searching does not search within folder shortcuts.
Ben.

The QuickSearch toolbar uses the COM API to execute the context-based search. The limitation that you have described is in the COM API. WorkSite Web (aka WSW) passes in the container id (the moniker of the workspace, as in your example). By design, iManage.dll executes a search on rooted folders only underneath the workspace.
DeskSite and FileSite have both circumvented this limitation in that their search toolbars contain a button that allows the user to limit the search's scope to the shortcut folder. In WSW that feature is not presently supported.
An alternative solution in WSW would be to drop a document search form on a workspace. Using the form editor, add the Container field, set it to Read Only and set the Default Value to the public folder.
Bear in mind that the type of search you have described has the capability of being a major performance hit for a web-based app. Searching a public folder tree, where potentially hundreds of thousands of documents reside, either would be extremely slow or time out. In either case, this would result in a poor user experience.
