iwupdate issue

Paul

I have fixed this before, but for some reason I am going around in circles right now ...

I am trying to use an iwupdate to move a file from one directory to another. What I am trying to do is use CHC_SalesToolbox\WORKAREA\content\Archive\ as an Archive for selected files.

I have:
CHC_SalesToolbox\WORKAREA\content\news
CHC_SalesToolbox\WORKAREA\content\images
CHC_SalesToolbox\WORKAREA\content\includes
CHC_SalesToolbox\WORKAREA\content\tools
CHC_SalesToolbox\WORKAREA\content\products
CHC_SalesToolbox\WORKAREA\content\services

This error is From: CHC_SalesToolbox\WORKAREA\content\news\AMPTest.html

To: CHC_SalesToolbox\WORKAREA\content\Archive\news\AMPTest.html

Results:
ERROR:02102: dst_vpath \default\main\CHC_SalesToolbox\WORKAREA\content\Archive\ does not match src_vpath \default\main\CHC_SalesToolbox\STAGING\news\AMPTest.html
Usage: iwupdate [-w|-s|-x] [-o] [-r] {src_vpath}+ dst_vpath
iwupdate [-w|-s|-x] [-o] [-r] [-f vpath_file] dst_vpath

where src_vpath specifies a path to a file, directory, or area and
dst_vpath specifies a path to a workarea. (dst_vpath may specify a path
to a file or directory in a workarea if the area-relative portions of
dst_vpath and src_vpath are the same.)
-w overwrite all files. Files in dst_area but not in src_area
will be deleted
-x overwrite conflicts
-s overwrite all versioned files
-r report on updated files
-f read source vpaths from the file vpath_file
(if vpath_file is -, stdin will be read)
-o directory update conflicts return success

iwupdate will only move files from one area to another area -- using the exact same path relative to the root of the area.

I.e. /default/main/foo/WORKAREA/A/mumble => /default/main/bar/WORKAREA/B/mumble

It will not allow you to change the path structure

i.e. /default/main/foo/WORKAREA/A/mumble !=> /default/main/bar/WORKAREA/B/subdir/mumble

You could do an iwupdate followed by an iwrename (iwrename I believe will allow you to 'move' as well as 'rename' a file within a given area).

What you are trying to do isn't suported. iwupdate will copy a file from one area to the same relative path in another area. So, in your example, you could copy \default\main\CHC_SalesToolbox\STAGING\news\AMPTest.html to \default\main\CHC_SalesToolbox\WORKAREA\content\news\AMPTest.html, but not to \default\main\CHC_SalesToolbox\WORKAREA\content\Archive\news\AMPTest.html

If that's really required, then you'll have to use update to get it into the workarea, and then rename it to the new directory.

doh!

Now I really feel dumb because when it HAS worked for me it WAS to different areas with the same relative path.

It's been a long day.

Off to investigate iwrename.
