Cache Settings

Hi,
TS 5.5.2 SP2 Solaris 2.6
We have a generally fragmented branching structure that performs quite well, however we have one large branch that holds mainly legacy content. Performance in this large legacy branch is often sluggish and frustrating to users.
The total number of files in this branch is ~ 59000. The admin manual stated that you should have the [iwserver] cache setting set to approx 3 times the number of files in the largest branch. This would be ~ 180000.
Does anyone have experience of running a server with this level of cache setting?
Also the fs_active_area_cache is set to the default value of 8. The manual states that if you increase this too much there will be memory performance loss, can anyone quantify "too much"? Would a setting of 10 be too much.
(obiviously this is all dependant on the resources and concurrent usage of the system) but I just want to gauge other users experience and settings.
Thanks
- mark

Check with Support on the cache settings - I seem to recall that the stated formula in the manual was flawed and that it really should almost never be changed from 30000.
Another things to consider:
- are there a lot of *locked* files in thiis branch? This tends to cause sluggish behavior.
you're in 5.5.2 - so the too-many-editions issue that plagued earlier versions of TeamSite shouldn't be an issue here - but you might check to see how many editions are on this branch anyway ...
