Protect confidential documents in TeamSite
civ3
Hi
I'm not sure if there is already some thread discussing this. I would like to know if there is a way to protect confidential documents in TeamSite. Only users in an OS group can view them in TeamSite while others might see the documents but they can't preview (or VisualPreview) / download them. Thanks.
My environment is TS6.1 on windows 2000 server. Comments on unix is welcome.
Best regards,
civ3

Your question seems to be rather non-specific. So my non-specific answer would be: yes, TS uses the file permissions as you set them on the underlying file system. In our case that's Solaris unix. You can't manage file permissions from the web gui (AFAIK), but you can set permissions via file system or via submit.cfg, both of which assume "admin" intervention.

When asked to implement this, the requirements given included protecting documents such that I, as system administrator of the the Unix development systems including our TeamSite server host machine, couldn't gain access. In that situation what I implemented was public key encryption using PGP. This approach allowed the author to grant access to specific users via public key encryption; but no OS level access would allow me to do more than copy the encrypted content. Even then, 1999 - 2000, PGP was well enough integrated into several Windows applications that adding a person to the document wasn't very technically challenging. Even the CEO learned to use it! ;->
