using dcr value in pt

System

Hi,

I want to remove extra added by the visual format in the dcr content of replicant text area control. So i am using following code.
<iw_iterate list='dcr.Paragraphs' var='sec'>
<iw_perl>

$content = iwpt_dcr_value'dcr.Paragraphs.Paragraph');
$content =~ s/<p[^>]*>//g;
$content =~ s/<\/p>/ /g;
iwpt_output ("$content");

</iw_perl>

this is working fine, but losing the font attribute that is set by user. font will remain if I directly use <iw_value name='sec.Paragraph' /> in the html code. How do I retain the font in the above code? I could not use iw_value in the perl code after iw_iterate.

Pl suggest.

thanks

I don't see the end of your iterate, nor do I see the end of your font tag, you don't seem to really be using the iteration, and there appear to be syactic errors in the code shown. Try this and see if it works any better:
<iw_iterate list="dcr.Paragraphs" var="sec">
<iw_perl>
my $content = iwpt_dcr_value("sec.Paragraph");
$content =~ s|<p[^>]*>||gs;
$content =~ s|| |gs;
iwpt_output($content);
</iw_perl>
</iw_iterate>
(Note: If you start your pt with <iw_pt name="..."/>instead of starting and ending with:<iw_pt name="...">
...
</iw_pt>you could get rid of those annoying 's and 's)

that was mistake while pasting the code.. I have end tag for iterate and font. basically I want to get the dcr value with the font retained to it..let me try..

Or, to eliminate those pesky <iw_perl> tags:

  <iw_iterate list="dcr.Paragraphs" var="sec">
    <iw_ostream filter="s/<p[^>]*>//gs">
     <iw_ostream filter="s|
|
|gs">
      <iw_value name="sec.Paragraph" />
     </iw_ostream>
    </iw_ostream>
  </iw_iterate>

hi,

I tried this code with ostream, but didn't work.. got error..could anyone suggest the workaround..

Dwayne

I must have done something stupid in it then. I don't see anything obviously wrong. I'll try to find some time today to build a simple PT to test it out.

OK. I found the problem. The basic concept was correct. I just forgot to XML-escape the < and > characters. Try changing it to this:

<iw_iterate list="dcr.Paragraphs" var="sec">
  <iw_ostream filter="s/<p[^>]*>//gs">
   <iw_ostream filter="s|</p>|<br>|gs">
    <iw_value name="sec.Paragraph" />
   </iw_ostream>
  </iw_ostream>
</iw_iterate>

One of several reasons why I prefer doing the coding in Perl rather than XML - less need to encode what you're doing...

True.

Actually, if I were doing this myself, I probably would have used a combination of these approaches. I would use a single <iw_perl></iw_perl> block at the top of the PT to define a function which would perform the subsitution that I wanted, and then I'd use a single <iw_ostream filter="..."> to invoke that function against the data.

I just wanted to mention it in this context because <iw_ostream> can be such a powerful tool in templating, but I think people are afraid to use it because they don't understand it.

thanks, this code worked.
