virtualization + symbolic links

Hi,
I have TS5.5.2 running on a Solaris box and BEA weblogic appserver is on Windows 2000. So far I have set up a network map for accessing the content from Teamsite box. But there doesn't seem to be a reliable way of setting up symbolic links on windows. I need a symbolic link to that network mapped directory so that Weblogic can serve the pages dynamically for virtualization. Any ideas please?

Unfortunately, I don't think Windows provides quite the functionality to meet the need as you describe it. You can use shortcuts, but, AFAIK, they only work when you're interacting with the desktop, and not for low-level file access. NTFS also provides JUNCTIONs, but they're more closely akin to hard links, as they can't cross file systems. So they won't help either.

I don't know anything about Weblogic, but can't you just create virtual directories, and point them to the mapped drive directly? Or, even better, to a UNC path? That would seem to be the more "standard" way of accomplishing what you're after.

In order to set up a virtual directory, do we need IIS to be running?

As I said, I know nothing about Weblogic, so I can't directly answer your question. All I can give is fairly "generic" info:

If Weblogic uses/can use some intermediary app to load the content, like IIS, then you can certainly create a virtual directory in IIS to point to your TeamSite content on the mapped drive

If Weblogic serves up the content natively from the file system, then you'll need to either configure a virtual directory (or whatever the equivalent term would be in weblogic) if supported, or reconfigure it so that it doesn't pull it's content from the default location, but instead from the mapped drive.

Sorry I'm not more help. Perhaps somebody with more experience in this area can chime in.

That seems like quite a leap to me. How did you get from "I don't have any experience with" to "not supported integrations?" In fact, I believe that this is a supported integration, at least when both the app server and TeamSite are on the same box. However, I don't speak for Interwoven. I don't even work for them any more. I'm only speaking from my experience with the product in general

Seriously, though - I really don't know that it's a supported integration, especially in the described configuration with TS on Unix and Weblogic on W2K. So my guess is that there won't be anything in the docs specifically describing this integration.

This started out as a simple "how dow I do symlinks in windows?" question. We (I) seem to have strayed fairly far afield. My apologies to the group.
